    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-11-27-retrospective-super-mario-bros-3-article

Is there anyone who doesn't love this game? I'm a total sucker for Mario; I'm going to pick up All-Stars on Wii next Friday, even though I have the separate NES titles downloaded from VC...and all of them on various handhelds. I just love those updated graphics!

I decided to put this in the main games forum, since Mario Bros 3 is such a phenomenon! It was one of the first games I remember staying up late playing, in my cousin's house.

Real men own a Nintendo, or they at least buy the good stuff on the Wii Store.

Has anyone played New Super Mario Bros 3? It was a rom hack by SKJmin (While the released hack is itself just an executable that you run on a rom you should already have (only legal if you also own the game), I wont put the link here, it shouldn't be too hard to find though) that converts the levels in New Super Mario Bros into Super Mario Bros 3 (but with the ds games graphics). This youtube vid shows what I mean.

It is real, and it works perfectly, however only the level design is from Mario world 3, the power ups and world map are from the DS game.

Hey don't knock the things that make him rescue me faster :pac:

I can't wait for Mario All Stars. Its gives me a nice excuse to replay all the games! Plus it comes with a CD of all the Mario music :D

Because it's built with the NSMB engine the physics are all wrong and it's just not as good as the original and the extra moves ruin it a bit. Still good but play the original game first.

Super Mario Bros. 3 is still one of the finest games ever made to this day it hasn't been topped in its genre.
The game physics are top notch mix that with awesome level design great enemies and the precision jumps makes for an addictive and entertaining game, it's still the most played game in my house today:D

True, it's still by far and away the greatest platform game ever made.

For me this game IS gameplay, IS my childhood, and far more addictive then alcohol could ever be. This and the other 3 games that came with all-stars kept me playing through the night for at least a year after I bought the game, I remember my mates knocking on my door to come out and play football and their was no way I wanted to, they'd say you can get where you are in the game again but sadly my mega drive loving firends didn't fully understand what was so special about Mario and the wonderful discoveries that awaited me.

I kind of prefer Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island to it but all 3 games are so damn good that it's really just personal preference in this case.

I always assumed that I had beaten SMB3 years ago but I watched a speed run on youtube a while ago and I have no recollection of the final world. Maybe I never did beat it. I will be getting the Mario Collection for Wii at Christmas so I will beat it sometime.

For me though Super Mario World is the superior game.

Super Mario World is the best Mario game for me as well. I loved SMB3, but World is the one that i always look back on with the most love. It's still immensely enjoyable today, which is a testament to how good it is.

Super Mario World was / is a brilliant game. Memories of playing it right through the night until the eyes were literally hanging out of my head :D

SMB3 & Yoshi's Island are outstanding games as well. Popped Yoshi into the DS a year or so ago but the sound of Baby Mario crying meant only a level or two got played before anger set in :pac:. For me, a game I'll only ever complete once.

And just for the record, Super Mario Brothers 2 is muck...

Yoshi's Island is a tad easy compared to Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros. 3 but you are correct that it is just down to personal prefrence as all these games are outstanding and great fun to play. Also you can pick them up and still play them as the controls are so intuative that I'll never forget them (just like riding a bike really)

In fairness, I think SMB2 had it's own charm (despite the fact that it isn't technically a "mario game". But world was my first video game ever at the age of 3, and I will always remember it with fondness. Still looks stunning today.

SMB2 is just misunderstood, it feels like more of an adventure than the rest but you really cant call it crap.

Yeah it was super easy other than the secret stages but getting 100% on levels was challenging and the thing that sealed the deal for me is just how much variety there is in the levels and the amount of imagination in them.

I'd also rank New Super Mario Bros Wii up there with these 3 games. NSMB DS though isn't that great.

My experience of SMB2 was the mario advance game on the GBA and I didn't like it at all. However I went back to play it on the NES and for some reason it just feels better on the NES and I enjoyed it a lot more.

Personally, I think it is :pac:

I hated it so much I could never even play it. I am however, and always have been, a love it or hate it type of gamer.

I watched a mate play SMB2 while I drank the beer. Good times... :D

I dunno I just liked the fact that it rewarded you for a bit of exploring with extra heart pieces or new bosses and the different characters having different skills. I never played it on the gba just the snes though so maybe its better. Saying all that smb3 and smw are clearly better games.

Have to agree there the levels in Yoshi's Island are well designed and imaginative also it's by far the best looking of all the Mario games.
NSMB Wii is great but when played co-op it becomes really frustrating especially when the other players charachter dies and my hcarachter pauses usually in mid jump thus resulting in death.
NSMB DS is a great game for the DS. Yes it's not too challenging but the gameplay is fantastic and the look of the game is great, that said it is kinda bland for a Mario game and could do with some more polish.

Similar to my experiences with Super Mario Bros 2 I have it on GBA and it's too tricky to enjoy but then I played it on NES and it's much more playable on the big screen.

Sure Mario Bros. 3 is a fantastic game from start to finish. I'm more a fan of Super Mario World on the Snes, but Mario Bros 3 is still great stuff.

So is this just a port of the 4 mario games or have all the games been remade?
I'd buy it for the booklet. 64 and sunshine should be included in this too, it seems a bit of a rip.

Ah Mario 3 that was the peek of the Mario games, I was around 12 or 13, when summers had sunshine to stay inside out of... before thoughts of Girls or booze or futuristic 16 bit graphics had entered my head..... Innocent times..... before he sold out and went all 3D. My Life and gaming would never be the same again.......

Compared to the Orange Box the All Stars collection will be anything but value for money. The thing is though if you pardon the pun I just compared oranges to apples, the All Stars collection isn't a gaming compilation, it's a collectors icon and just like all those ridiculously over priced collector editions of various objects throughout the century it's going to sell out and as it's limited edition you can probably bet your arse there will be competition for the last few original copies.
