Started the car earlier and moved it a few feet as a trial run for the morning. Was very sluggish. Handbrake was the issue. Pretty much frozen. Temp read -4 at the time. What do other people do? I left handbrake off, in gear with blocks of wood behind the wheels. Parked on fairly flat ground. Whatever about the road conditions tomorrow I may not get it moved from in from of the house

Yes your approach is very good.

just leave it in the reverse gear if your drums/calipers getting stucked and lock the wheels

u dont need any wood blocks as far as u dont leave the car on the high hill
its not gonna fly anywhere ;)

Leave the handbrake off, leave the car in gear with the front wheels angled in towards the kerb. With the ignition lock on, she's going nowhere fast.

    one caveat here folks,

My driveway is steep (up to the house).

Last year, Handbrake and in Park, car would slide onto the street over-night.

Lesson here? Clear your driveway (a pain) so you are parking on the ground, not Ice..

It might also keep you out of A&E.

I'm pretty sure it makes no difference if you leave it in first or reverse as it's the resistance of the engine turning that slows the car and this is the same no mater which way the engine turns. I'm certainly open to correction on this though!

    Anyone?

Popped out to take the handbreak offs, lets hope it's still there in the morning.

I'd have thought that chocking the wheels might have saved the personal injuries (it must be a heavy auld bus)
