I think this was very good value for those with coal fires -

    3 x 40kg coal
    3 bags of logs
1 bag of turf all for 50 euro in the Dublin Patio Centre, Jamestown Business Centre, Finglas.

I'm not sure whether you'd have to pay extra to have it delivered.

    Is that 40kg or 20?

    40 kg bags

Thanks for that sounds like a good deal. Any idea what the coal is like. I find the stuff with the briquette like pieces in it burns very quickly, gives out little heat and leaves piles of ash. Want the stuff that's all coal pieces

Just as a comparison and for those living near Boyle, Co. Roscommon...

    Sloans hardware have

    40KG Polish Coal €11.50
    BNM Briquettes 3.50 per bale

Two years I lived in Dublin and couldn't find a bag of turf. I figured it was just cos of the fuel restrictions.

I'm not a coal expert but it doesn't look like "small briquette type" they are actual lumps. It came in a red bag with an Armagh phone number with MasterFlame written on the bag - I hope this helps.

I got this on Saturday myself. They also sell the non-smokeless coal, which i got. Great coal, last a long time and throws out a load of heat. The logs and turf did not burn as well but got going once the coal took.

FYI the coal on its own is €16.00 a bag

Very tempted to get some coal delivered. Not sure if this deal is still running and there'd some delivery charge on top as I dont have the time to collect it myself.

    They are advertising the following;
    40KG BAGS OF COAL, €15.00
FIREWOOD IN BAGS 4 FOR €10.00
TURF IN BAGS 3 FOR €10.00
BUTANE + PROPANE GAS BOTTELS €29.00
WE DELIVER IN NORTH DUBLIN MON-FRI
5 BAGS OF COAL DELIVERED €80.00
5 BAGS OF COAL + 4 BAGS OF FIREWOOD + 3 BAGS OF TURF DELIVERED €100.00

I asked what coal it was and they just said "smokeless". I don't what that means about its quality. I think I'd feel better getting smokeless as long as it wasgood quality stuff.

I also found http://www.homefuel.ie and one place delivers coal to my area and they have the following (all delivered prices)
1 Bag of 40kg Black Diamond - Polish Coal
    Price: €17.00
3 Bags of 40kg Black Diamond - Polish Coal
    50
5 Bags of 40kg Black Diamond - Polish Coal
    Price: €85.00
5 Bags of 40kg Black Diamond - Polish Coal
    Price: €85.00
1 Bag Bord na Mona Union Nuggets 40kg
    Price: €16.50
5 Bags Bord na Mona Union Nuggets 40kg
    Price: €82.50
1 Bag Black Diamond - Standard Anthracite 40kg
    Price: €19.00
3 Bags Black Diamond - Standard Anthracite 40kg
    Price: €55.00
5 Bags Black Diamond - Standard Anthracite 40kg
    Price: €90.00
    Taken from here.

I don't know which to go for.

Any other decent places that deliver to Dublin 5/9 area?

And they deliver to Dublin for €1. I don't think so.

You can't really compare, somethings are cheaper down the bog and somethings are cheaper in Dublin. If there is a place that delivers to Dublin and is good value, please let me know.

Where in Athlone is that? I was at the Bunker last weekend and it was around €15 per bag. Good stuff though - burns hot and lasts long.

    Spar Garrycastle

:D That's my brother-in-law's shop - he was sold out ages ago and is waiting for new stock to arrive - hence why I went to the Bunker...

Was that big lumps of coal he had I'd definitely stock up on that. The cheap stuff in roscommon town was in tiny lumps - smaller than hardcore pure crap.

Spar in Garrycastle, Athlone has more coal in stock. But due to an increased cost he has to sell them at €12 a bag. Seems to be decent coal though...

(as mentioned before, I am related to the owner. I've just bought from there on the weekend though - I have no monetary interest in bringing you this news)

Hi Marie - do you work in the Dublin Patio Centre, or just over-eager?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,872 ✭✭✭Dickerty

If they are open again, I've no issue with this being bumped, it was a great deal...
