As you are looking at accords, be sure to stay away from the diesel models. Some (predominantly earlier models) were very ropey to say the least.

No issues with the petrol one, the old man has a 10 year old accord for the last 6-7 years, 200k+ miles on her now and just passed her NCT again.

    Hi all,

Just looking for a bit of advice, been driving a banger for years decided its time to upgrade been looking at the honda accords anyone heard good/bad reviews on these? I've never bought from a dealer before either any tips/pointers? :-/

    Got my eye on:

    http://www.clonskeaghhonda.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=201044200099789

I'm in love!! lol :p Think I'll go test drive it next wk, well once all this ice is gone!

Also looking at more feasible options:

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1647468

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1609316

Yes, yes you should upgrade :p

First off, the lad selling that blue DC5 buys and sells cars on the side, his brother does the same thing. A girl I work with knows him, and asked around for me cos I was considering that Blue DC5, and she heard from a fair few people that his cars are ropey and I was told to stay away. But sure it wouldn't hurt to have a look anyway!

I think spending 22k on the above Accord is a bit of a mad idea in the current climate. As you know, family have dealt with Clonskeagh Honda for about 15 years. I can't fault them, cars i've seen down there have always been in good condition. Would happily buy off them at any point. I would say you would get a great deal for cash on that Accord. Can't say i'm a fan of the cream interior of the wood trim on the dash though!

Can't really fault Accords, they are great cars and once looked after, will go on forever, like all Hondas :P

Realistically how much would you like to spend?

The Accord and the Integra are two completely different cars to be fair. The Accord is a very big comfortable car; I had the older model (99) and driving into work was a bit like getting back into bed! The Integra however is a car designed for performance, and it will not be anywhere near as comfortable to drive in, especially if you drive on seconadary roads a lot. Lower car and hard suspension make for a fantastic driving experience but a very hard ride.

In my case I went from an Accord to the Integra Im currently driving (99 Accord to DC2 Integra so the model below both the ones you posted). I wouldnt change the Integra for anything, its my dream car and has been for half my life, but if what you are looking for is comfort over performance then you might prefer the Accord. Test drive both of them tho, and if you dont fall in love with the DC5 Id be shocked!

Also bear in mind that the Integra is going to cost a lot more than the Accord to run; Irish insurance companies dont like the words "Type R" so they will either flat refuse to quote you or they will pull stupid figures out of their arse just to put you off. If you are going down that road then look into Setanta Insurance, who I found to be the only company in Ireland who take Japanese performance cars seriously.

That is a very valid point. She lives in the back arse of Wicklow, and some of the roads are shocking down there!!!!!
She has been in my DC2 a lot before though, so she knows how hard the ride can be.
Actually Jemmy, why don't you just buy my car off me!? lol :P

The 2.0 i-vtec engines are meant to be pretty solid. I've heard a few negative things about the diesels alright. I'd pick the accord, dont think the integra would really make as much sense.

As was already raised though, what's your actual budget? There's a good 13k difference in two of the cars you linked!

Oh I know already I WILL no doubt fall in love with the DC5, I know I should be buying something sensible and more economical but I love the DC5s I'm not into my comfort cars at all! For years I've wanted something like the DC5 or similar.

I know running costs will be more, being a 25yr old girl with a full licence and 6 yrs no claims really helps with insurance though! ;) Thanks though if it is an issue I'll def look them up.

Yours is very clean & I know it's treated like a your baby but the DC2s don't do it for me like the DC5s!

Tbh I don't really have a budget set. I had my banger punto for 6yrs, I'm looking for something that I wont have to change for a few yrs again really I won't be able to afford it again for awhile so that's why I was thinking just be sensible and get something like the Accord. I was going to try do some bargaining on that price though!

Oh and yea I wasn't a fan of it either at first, but I could live with it! lol
I don't think I will go for that particular one now after a bit more thought but def looking at the accords.

Are you set on a honda?

Have you had a look at what the germans have to offer? you'd grab an 07 530d for 20k.

Not totally set on a honda. Yea the 530ds are lovely, hmm dunno though they seem to be 20K+ which probably is higher than I'd hoped to spend.

If youre 25 with no other obligations then forget the Accord and go for the DC5! So long as you can afford to run it then who cares if its not the sensible or economical option? Chances are in a few years you wont be able to afford to run a car like a DC5 so grab it now while you can! Cars like Accords will always be there and will be a practical option in a few years.

Im of the opinion that everyone should own a car like a Type R at some stage in their life, to make them appreciate what proper motoring is all about...

Very true :D Only trouble I have now is convincing my father who has to give it the once over of the same thinking! lol

Well just checked he's telling a few white lies about the DC5, so prob won't waste my time looking at it if he already has a bad rep. Just hold on a bit longer for something else.

My bad - Just checked with him there and he changed his mind and is keeping the car.
Pity because he had OCD when it came to his cars

If you are still stuck between the 2 cars OP this is a good compromise
Got loads of power and is still comfortable, I have one and can't fault it
