    Hi all,
Myself and my boyfriend are currently in the planning process.
Do you think it is necessary to have a window in the downstairs toilet?
This is posing difficulty with the front elevation of our house as we'll have to put in an extra front window which makes the house look a little busy and also it will have to be frosted which may look funny.
Toilet has to be in this location.
    Please post opinions,
    Thanks!

    Hi Maz o
Its not really necessary. Do make sure to put in extractor fan. have it connected through the light switch. As you have no window and will need to turn on light fan will start up when you switch light on. This will extract any fowl air also.

We put in a window because it's at the side of the house but it's not necessary, we could just as easily do without it. A radiator, however, is a different story. Lots of houses have none in the downstairs toilet but I think it's a must.

I don't think it's necessary in a small downstairs cloakroom type toilet.

We don't have a window in ours, but my Dad has in his and it makes a small space look even smaller.

Get an extractor fan, or even better an extractor fan with auto shut off.

Anywhere I've lived I've always looked for windows in all the bathrooms and toilets. It's not necessary but it's something I prefer. I would definitely put a window in if I was building.

I know people who've experienced huge difficulties with ventilation in downstairs toilets with no windows, one woman I know has just given up and uses it as a store room. I also have bad memories of a bathroom when I was in college...

I also agree that a radiator is necessary.
