    keep an eye out in the local newspaper. If a knitting class is starting up there'll usually be a small article about it in the press. Have you got a local wool/crafts shop you could ask at? Classes normally last about six weeks.

    Pity you're not in the west I could teach you myself

    You usually don't get classes outside the cities, but try your local craft shop for information.

    Sometimes local knitters meet at libraries - ask at your nearest one. They will usually be only to happy to get you started.

    Failing that, if you check out knitting on' You tube', there are tons of instructional videos to watch.

    Ask around your locality for someone who knits and ask them for a lesson, most people are very obliging. I've taught a half a dozen people who just turned up at my door.

    And if none of that works out, get yourself a knitting magazine, they usually have beginer instructions.
