    Hi,

I am trying to organise a few days golfing in portugal and I was wondering if anyone had any good experiences with accomadation or courses that they could recommend. Any suggestions welcome.

    Thanks

Have been to Portugal a few times and we always go back to the same place just outside Lisbon to an area called Caiscais. Its a nice relaxed coastal fishing town with a good choice of hotels. Nightlife would be fairly quiet but there is an urban rail which can get you into Lisbon in half an hour.

Never been to the Algarve, but must go one of the days.

There are heaps of good Golf Course around here:

http://www.golfmed.co.uk. You'll get some ideas from these guys.

We used to hire a couple of minivans and on with the satnav and of ya go.

    I've played:
    Estoril
    Bellas de campos
    Auroria,
    Pengha Longa

My favourite is Auroria. Two courses here both amazing. In fact they have a great deal on at the moment for next spring where you can stay on site and play as much golf as you like for a ridiculous price. there is a gang of us going for it in Feb. Check the website:

    http://www.aroeira.com/en/index.php

Hope that helps. Ya cant go wrong really. Blue Sky golf is where its at!

Played down here with a group of 16 of us about 5 years ago. We ended up going to Lisbon rather than the Algarve
We booked with www.yourgolftravel.com which was golf, transfers and accomadation on b&b.
    Flights we booked seperate

Stayed in a place called Cascais was a number of hotels / apartments there. Played golf in three local courses between 10 / 20 mins away. I remember the played we stayed in arranged all transfers in the price.

I can't remember the names of the course but I have one stroksaver from Quinta da Marinha and that was the best of the three we played.

    Hope this helps

I can reccomend traveling east from faro to Taveria. 3 very nice courses there. Quinta de Cima, Quinta de Ria are two sister courses. Cima is the more difficult course, but both are really nice. For a real treat, go to Monte Rei. Expensive but worth every penny. Absolutely stunning course.

been to portugal 4 times and played golf on each occasion. The algarve is the hotbed of golf in portugal and there are loads of courses to suit all standard of golf.
One of the main places is Vilamoura where the portugal masters takes place which has around 7 courses within 10m mins of each other and also the accomadation. The Tivoli hotel group have 3 hotels in Vilamoura for various price ranges but all provide free transfer to the courses.
Favourite course is the Old Course followed by Vila Sol.

Another area i would recommend would be albufeira which has loads of accomadation and golf courses in the vicinity but a small bit more travel is needed. I didnt find the courses as good as the ones in Vilamoura but they are still pretty good. Courses would include: Salgados
    Morgado
    Silves

I heard recently from a friend over there that the new revamped PALMEIRAS course is the finest in the algarve with spectacular greens and superb views. it sounds like a serious place to play if you can get a tee time

Sorry HB, just one of my pet peaves. There are no degrees of uniqueness. Something is either unique or it isn't. Thankfully it's not as widespread as the random (greater than 100) percentages. Like "I gave it 110%"

Heading out to Amendoeira Golf Resort in the Algarve on Monday morning for 4 days golf and practice. Are the days short to play 18 holes and do I need to bring warm clothes ?

I'm just off to check accuweather on Google and then I'll google Algarve Sunset/Sunrise times. Be back later when I've done this for you.:rolleyes:
