Surely the tipping point must be very close for many.....
The Department of Education has instructed schools to cut the pay of up to 17,000 secretaries, caretakers, cleaners and other non-teacher staff.

What do you mean by this?

From reading the news article it seems to me that when public servants had their pay cut last year and the pension levy, this group escaped and the Department of Education is only catching up with them now.

So rather than screwing everyone else, this is about applying the same rules to everyone.

The staff are not actually paid for by the department....they are not public servants.I think its fair to say that these workers don;t have the pay, pension or benefits that match that of teachers.

I am of the opinion that the rate of teachers pay isn't the reason for the position the country is in. The problem lies within the civil service but you must look higher. Teachers actually have productivity, they know what they do each day in a class.

We should be looking at the school inspectors (no actual teaching experience needed) and the higher members of the Dept Of Ed.

They Govt is taking the easier option of hitting the people at the bottom of the scale.

Somebody please tell FF that a 'Smart Economy' needs the population to be taught in less than classes of 30.

I'd feel for secretaries, cleaners, janitors in schools. they do a tough job for not great pay.

don't cut more inspectors. there are the main thing maintaining standards across education. cut a few civil servants in education departments, exam commission etc

here's an idea - cut 80 TDs and halve the Seanad. that will save lots of money.

things are getting out of control
