    Ear plugs?

A fellow swimmer I swim with got special ones custom fitted, they can cost from 6/7 euro up to 60euro.

I wear ear plugs and my cap covers my ears as well. Easy solution.:D
I need to get my ears syringed every two years or so, and last time my doctor said the chlorine itself in pools causes build up and is not very healthy in inner ear. So just wear plugs. Also, i like to dive down and don't need to worry about that pressure doing any harm with plugs on.

Is it blocked with water? Mine used to block up somtimes and a cotton bud didnt help. I find if you turn your head on its side/upside down... if the feeling inside your ear changes and its just water moving about, wriggling your head around usually makes it work loose and it streams out your ear then.

I guess what you are talking about is water ya, way back in the ear cavity ... that usually works its way out especially when you are asleep, but long term, the chlorine deposits can attract more wax build up over time, a little oil now and then does the trick then..... remind me not to continue this conversation with any women tonight if i'm in the pub

They say never put anything smaller than your elbow into your ear. Docs pro plugs are the ones a lot of surfers wear to prevent surfers ear in cold water but they still have a tiny hole to allow some sound in. usually worth the extra few pound I am told.

while in spain a few years ago, I got a blocked ear from swimming, when I eventually when to the chemist, the lady took out what looked like an a4 sheet of wax paper, she rolled it into a cone, lay me on my side with the sore ear facing up. She then placed the narrow point of the cone into my ear - Then she SET FIRE to the other end !!! this created a suction that sucked the water straight out - very strange feeling but worked a treat.
