I'm rolling out a nationwide service in the coming weeks and have been getting quotes from quite a few courier companies. Fastway seem to be the most competitive in terms of price so I was just wondering if anybody has used them?

We have been using fastway for a while now without any issues. There prices are reasonable, and their service has been very good.

    They are worth a go.

depends if its all single boxes.

Fastway would be cheapest for this.

If its multiple boxes per address, then dpd will be cheapest.

An Post are also very competitive - handy if you have a lot of rural addresses and no contact numbers. (postie knows everyone!)

    Heya,

We have used Fastway here at work for the past 5 years +. Very reasonable and reliable.

As with all these services get to know the local driver. Setup your standard times for daily pick ups and get his mobile number incase you need to delay a pick up/ make a late one.

Also worth picking a company with a local depot incase you need to get something to them urgently/ when you miss the pick up time. If this will be an issue...

I tried Nightline with a small business I had. Very good also when it works but when it goes wrong - it goes very wrong. i.e. parcel not leaving depots for two days and then dont know about it - takes a day to find it.. still worth a try - prices were good and online booking system very useful.

If you will send stuff everyday arrange for them to call everyday and then cancel if not needed.

Do a bit of haggling for your first rate and include new rates for when your quantities improve. No harm to exagerate the quatities a little - still havent had our rates reviewed. Beware of extra costs with oversized parcels and also if you are sending/ picking up stuff outside of Ireland. Costs are then controlled by their sister companies. You will get away with the odd oversized parcel nationally but internationally they sting you for everything.

When I was checking DPD and Nightline were similar for nationwide next day delivery. DPD international rates were very good and varied alot depending on how much haggling.

Thats my limited experience but maybe of help.

    Best of luck!
    D

    Hi Kinetic.

What are your expected daily or weekly quantities?
Will your orders be single boxes or multiples?
Will you ever need to ship pallets?
Is it likely you will need to make returns/collections?
    Where are you shipping to?

All important things to know before I could offer advice/quote etc. I've been in the business all my life and not all carriers are the same....don't go by price alone

We use Niteline - 4.50 the first parcel and 1.50 thereafter to the same address, you can bale parcels together for the minimum size.
Free returns if booked online - ok tracking system, we would ship to alot of retails shops around Ireland everyday so not much rural drops.

What do people think? are we getting a good rate?

    Hey BarryM3,

Aiming for 20 journeys per week (10 jobs as such)
Single boxes, would be about the size of a pillow if that helps.
    No pallets.
Collection & return but won't be on the same day so I'm guessing that's a seperate journey.
    Nationwide here in Ireland.

    Cheers.

    hELLO Badboyblast,

Bless your negotiating skills. Those are some of the lowest figures I have seen. I know that Nightline specialise in retail and are likely already delivering to your customer, if not they are delivering next door, so that makes them very competitive.

    Well done

    Cheers,
    Rudolf
