hopefully im not repeating something someone has asked before so here goes

father in law is getting a new car, i have a 14 year old car which he would like to use for scrappage and hel give me his current car which is just under the ten year old mark but still better than my car

    now logistics

i presume the new car will initially be in my name as the car being scrapped is in my name, so can i do a change of ownership straight away or is there a minimum time period to wait first, in which case the new car will have to be insured in my name for that period...

does anyone have any knowledge or experience of this..
    cheers

No waiting time required. I know a guy who just done the same. The minute you get the papers from shannon just get your father in law to fill out for new owner and send them back to shannon.

Only thing is that your father in law will now be the second owner.

Once you qualify for the scrappage the car will be registered to you. What you do with it after that is no concern of the Government. As soon as you receive the Vehicle Licencing Cert, both you and father in law fill in the change of ownership part at the back, sign it and send it off to the DOE in Shannon Your father in law will then receive a new VLC from Shannon about two weeks later.
