Hello apple fans, I was hoping to buy an ipad as a chrismas present so i went online to check the prices and was shocked at how apply price items in different currencies.

    Take the 64gb +wifi ipad
    Irl = 758euro equivalent to $1002 us
    Aus$ = 998.00 equivalent to $960 us

Regular price in the us = $788

So by buying in ireland you pay more than 25% more! is there anyway around this? i'll be flying home from australia for christmas so i can get it here but its still more than 20% above the american price.

    Thanks.

Ah 'Apple Tax'! There's no way around it unless you actually go to the States or know someone there/going. At least I don't think there is.

Think that's bad; I'm looking at buying a Sony Vaio z series core i7 256ssd -- price in Canada is €1400. Here, the one with the 128ssd is €2800!!!! So needless to say I'm getting mine over there.

Simple 1 to 1 price comparison across regions doesn't tell the whole story.

Please educate yourself. UK prices must by law include VAT, which is around 18%. US prices do not include tax.

It's not going to be the best exchange rate, but there is also more going on.

OP, those prices are wrong. You are including today's Black Friday discounts and not accounting for VAT.

The iPad 64GB 3G+WiFi is €660.33 before VAT on the Irish Apple Store.
On the US Store it is $829, which is about €626.

So it costs about €35 more here.

Yet another of these stupid, ill-informed "exchange-rate" comparisons.

Price excludes sales taxes which vary depending on where in the US you buy the product

Legally, the advertised price includes VAT @ 21%, so to be consistent with US pricing (for comparison) the tax exclusive price is US$ 828 or +5%

Price includes GST @ 10% (?), so to be consistent with US pricing (for comparison) the tax exclusive price is US$ 864 or +10%

There are several ways to reduce the difference, some are even legal.

No, the real difference is about10%

No offence taken. My reference was to the content of your post, not to you personally. We don't do dissing people on here. No doubt I will post some piece of tripe at some stage in the future; feel free to let me have your feedback. :D
