No engines and it's pumps and generators aren't working. Doesn't sound very invincible to me.

The engines are modular turbines that can be readily replaced.

If he were still Minister for Defence, Willie O'Dea would have an orgasm. I can see him buying it up and then realising "ah shíte we've no planes for it".

I believe what you viewed on the CM170 SM's was the blended tail-strike fin it has a wheel about half way thru it as the Fouga's were notoriously low to the Ground so a high nose up upon take off was never a great idea.

Is this what you meant, just under the butterfly tail under the small serial numbers.

I thought the Royal Australian Navy had expressed an interest in buying Invincible ? Can't see them being too interested when it has no engines

They were interested in 1982, then the falklands war happened, and the UK decided it needed vince again.

I watched her go out to the Falklands, a rather weird day iirc. No one at the time thought there would be any hostilities.

When she came back, there was one hell of a party. HMS Hermes came back a week or so earlier and nearly all of my school developed the flu and had to go down to Southsea. When Vince came back, the school closed for the day as we all knew Queenie would be there to welcome home Randy Andy.

I had the fortune of a tour around Invincible when she was petty new as well on Trafalgar day one year. Not a massive aircraft carrier, but impressive all the same. Shame to see her go but time moves on. The big travesty is the mothballing of Ark Royal. To think it could be another ten years before the RN launches another plane from a flight deck again.

Well, If we tell Edna Kenny that it can be converted into his hospital ship - will he buy it then :)

    **Cough** HMS Ocean **Cough**

Not what she's designed for, but she can still do it.

    she can still launch Harriers.

as she is she can't suppprt them very well - you couldn't load her up with GR9's, sail down to the South Atlantic or Indian Ocean and then expect her to fight like a aircraft carrier, but she can still transport them, act as a forward operating platform and then support a forward operating base with her Chinooks.

she can also operate indefinately as an all singing, all dancing FOB for the AH-64D's - and they'll fcuk-up most peoples day...
