Internship and money from social welfare

    Hi guys!

Have a question on behalf of my girlfriend.
How does it work here in Ireland about internship and getting paid from social welfare? I mean, she will need to quit her job before she starts her internship. Going forward she needs to know if there's any chance that she can get some money from social welfare / FAS during her internship? If so, how she applies for that, where and what she needs to know before she goes for it?

Any useful ideas and points would be apreciated.

    Thanks for anything helpful :)

This recent FAS scheme allows people to work on placement/internship and retain their social welfare benefit. She would have to be in receipt of a SW benefit first and then follow the outlined FAS process to carry out her internship and be in receipt of her SW payment. But still at least she will get something!!

afaik if you leave your (paying) job voluntarily you can't just go on JSB/JSA.

she would need to have been made redundant.

technically you are supposed to be out of work for 3 months and registered with Fas in order to be eligible to apply for WPP roles.

an unpaid internship outside of the WPP is different.

in summary I don't expect that your OH will be eligible to get money from the Social welfare if she leaves her current job voluntarily.
