Hi there..

I think ive finally settled on possibly getting the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate (Is captivate the most recent Galaxy S phone? Or is it the same thing?)

It was that or the HTC desire. If anyone has any last good points/comments as to sway towards the HTC id love to hear them.

The only thing is, whether to get one now, or after Christmas, or to wait until the next generation of smartphones comes out.

Do you think after Christmas the prices of the Galaxy S will come down?

Or do you think we are due a new flood of smartphones soon?
    -any info on new models?

Would waiting until these come out be the best thing at this stage?

The NFT stuff sounds interesting that might be on the next line of smartphones http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Near_Field_Communication

What do people think of this?

    Is price a consideration?

If I hadn't just bought a htc desire hd (which I would strongly recommend by the way) I would be waiting to see what happens with the new "google" branded phone the new nexus which is rumoured to be just around the corner.

If you're like me however and just cant wait for a new phone I would get a htc desire hd and if price was a bit of a consideration I would get the normal desire over the galaxy s...

    Thats just my two cents.

yea the Nexus S / Nexus 2 could be very interesting, its suppose to have that NFC stuff as well, which the more I look up on youtube, seems very interesting.

What made you get the Desire if you mind me asking?

    Thanks.

Just to clarify, I got the desire hd.

But I got that because while researching my new phone any website I read said that the htc desire was the best phone there was to be had out there, especially convincing was this article, and so I reasoned that the desire hd had to be at least slightly better...

I was slightly tempted by the fact that apparently the samsung galaxy s screen is meant to be way better than the desire hd but, again apparently, the build quality is not meant to be that great whatever that means. I didn't consider it greatly but the nexus s is meant to be a samsung phone and I would definitely consider that (again if I hadn't already made a purchase).

Whatever phone you get though you are going to be extremely satisfied, I spend hours a day playing with my phone (yes sat beside some way to charge it back up again) and it is way more than merely a phone. I was doing some internet banking today on it and even though I have become accustomed to being able to do that and take it for granted, it's absolutely amazing when you think of the state of play ten, and maybe even 5 years ago. Plus the browser on the phone is beautiful and a joy to use...

(Just in case there are any iPhone users reading this, I'm not totally biased, they are an amazing batch of phones too but the proprietariness and locked features of it just make it a non runner for me. Didn't even consider one.)

i'm in the same boat and thinking of getting the Desire Z and am interested in what may be lurking around the corner to get our geeky drool flowing

now there's a phone I didnt consider simply because it wasn't available a few weeks ago, but if I was buying today it might be a tougher choice for me.

I had the g1 a while ago (til it dropped and the screen smashed :(), and the flip out keyboard was amazingly useful and not to be underestimated. But definitely if I had to buy a phone today the desire hd and desire z would be the two competing in the coin toss*.

*coin toss would not necessarily happen and decision would more than likely be as a result of some solid research

Adren and Skerries there is always going to be a better bit of tech on the way as its just the way the market works. But all 3 of the HTC Desire series are damm good phones and speaking from experence, I picked up the original Desire on day 1 its still the best phone Iv every had and Iv yet to see another phone that's me even consider upgrading.

    Thanks for the replies.

@Venom.. do you think there might be a price reduction though on the Desire series after christmas? And with the Nexus 2 just around the corner?

Hmm.. I may hold off I think.

Same here it's a class phone. Wont be changing it anytime soon as no need.

Ardren: Desire might go down a little but I'd imagine there'll be more of the new ones out and less original desires so they might hold ok value wouldn't expect a major price drop as still a serious piece of kit.

Honestly I don't think so due to how popular the phones are and popular tech never drops in price much but ya could get a good deal second hand when the must have new tech peeps buy the first next gens to appear. Unless you must have an Android phone right this minute I'd suggest holding off to see how the next generation looks.

I wouldn't focus to much on the Nexus 2 tho as HTC's Sense UI blows the standard Google and Samsung UI's away and is what makes the HTC Android phones so great to use.
