Hi I bought an UHF arial in Woodies DIY. I'm just wondering when I install it, will I get the Irish stations or is it only the english stations I get on this arial. Can anyone help me, please.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Beng.

Third time's a charm - "aerial" is the spelling you're searching for!

What you get depends on where you are. If you're on the east coast or in a border area, you might receive UK Freeview transmissions with suitable masthead amplifier and appropriate receiver, but I would guess that you don't have a masthead amplifier.

The Woodies aerials are pretty flimsy and really only suitable for mounting in the attic. Whereabouts are you based and what receiving equipment do you have (TV model or set top box)?

what part of world are you in and group is your aerial

What aerial is it? Woodies probably isn't the best place to buy an aerial (overpriced).
Depending on where you are you'll probably only receive the Irish channels, if you don't have a digital television capable of receiving mpeg-4 you'll have to buy a digital set top box. You will be able to receive analogue signals until analogue switch off in 2012 though

    It depends where you live

In most of Ireland you will get the Irish Channels

In most of UK you will get the UK Channels.

In a few places with suitable multiple aerials and big poles you get both.

If your TV is a suitable Digital Kind you get 6 Irish Channels and 10 Radio Channels in Ireland or about about 30 channels if in the U.K.

    See www.saortv.info

There are no Analogue or Digital Aerials.

The roof, (chimney or gable) gives hugely better signal than the attic.

Since we don't know roughly the County, type of aerial and Model of TV, we can't be specific in answering the question.

Most of Ireland needs a Dish + satellite receiver to get free UK Television.

Can anyone actually spell AERIAL 'arial' / 'ariel'

Why not try and see how washing powder or liquid picks up tv signals??

Never mind the spelling, we know what the post is about.
Also, since they've already bought the aerial, I don't see any point in rubbing their nose in it as regards price/quality etc.
It's just a pity he/she didn't say where they are.

I wasn't rubbing anyone's face in it, do you not think this knowledge should be available for other people?

Tom - I provided three valuable pieces of advice:

    • Woodies aerials are best suited to attics - that's where mine was re-located after partially disintegrating when mounted on the chimney stack for two months ;)
    • Reception of UK or Irish TV channels is location dependent
    • Correct spelling of aerial, as the OP was obviously trying several combinations

Cairn Hill transmitter is about 25 miles away to your north-east.
It uses UHF channel 47 for Saorview & it's pretty powerful.
Do you plan to install the aerial outdoors?

Will be putting it into the Attic and I hope that will pick up an alright signal for me.

It should for Cairn Hill (irish TV). You won't get reliable N.I. in the Attic, if at all.
