Hey, as the title says we have the NCT booked, and got the text to confirm, haven't received the letter yet though and have a party half way across the country tomorrow, are we ok?, or should we just bus/train it? advice please :o

    How long is NCT out?

If it was me I'd drive, the guards are very unlikely to do anything once you have a date. If you're stopped, offer immediately to show NCT at a station (if they even ask).
Then again, they could impound the car.

    Older thread if that helps

If taxed, insured and being driven by a fully licenced driver its highly unlikely they will do anything to you. I would drive if I was you.

Even at that if everything else is in order no Garda would do anything about it if you have a booking.

If the car has been off the road a full year, do you have a declaration of non usage?
There's a massive difference between a few weeks and a year.

Anyway, good luck. Hope insurance and everything else is in order.

To get the car taxed we had a form stamped by the guards to say it had been off the road, is that what you mean Biko? Everything else is in order, yes. I know theres a difference alright, sorry relevant info fail :o

The law says NO. I have done it an many ocasions and been pulled showed letter and everything was cool. Some times I didnt even have the letter and everything is fine. As long as the car isnt held together by tape and there in no noticable faults you should be fine. Make sure you have everything else though i.e tax, insurance and full license or fully licensed driver with you.

Sound, yeah if you have the papers to show that the car have in fact been off the road I wouldn't worry.

I drove a car from 2006 to 2009 with no NCT disc up, and was never stopped or asked about it. (The disc was still attached to the cert tucked behind the sun visor, as I never got around to buying a disc holder).

I was stopped at a checkpoint in a car with no NCT. Car had been in mothballs for about 2 years so the cert was waaaaay out.

The NCT was booked for later that week and when he saw that the car was taxed (just about) and insured, off I went.

My wife's car was 4 months over due for it's NCT inspection and was never stopped at checkpoints, although that might have been because the car is an 06 so they may have just reckoned it wasn't due yet.

IMHO it would be rare to be done for failure to display an NCT if the car is booked in.

Very much would depend on the gaurd that stops you....Technically you should not drive but it's at his/her discrection to do you for it.

Most will let you on your way but bear in mind there is always one stickler! But I would say it'd be fine.
