It's not Christmas I like...

It's the weather, the short days and the fresh coldness. The frost and the snugness. The wholesome food that I seem to crave. It's a festival of a kind and I wish it was still somehow a pagan thing. Feasting and good company and a warm fire.
The shops and loads of presents and false sincerity and I'm so ****ing tired of the songs. All the Santa/Jesus stuff and the fake happiness that people feel the need to shove down your neck in progressively larger chunks the closer it gets to the 25th. Just why.
It's a great time of year is what I'm saying and while I don't actually hate Christmas (:p) it's not why this time of year is great. If anything it's completely in spite of it. I felt the need for this after seeing the first 'woo Christmas woo' thread there. And it's November. You don't start celebrating Halloween in September.

I'll add Ba Humbug! before someone else does. :)

Don't worry. I believe it's cancelled this year. if the budget passes, you might not even have to take any time off work, you lucky bastard!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

What I love about this time of year is the fact that all of the people I know (friends and relations) are back from overseas and college. If I go down to the local for the next 5 weeks or so I know there's going to be a good crowd in to have the craic and play a few games of pool with after work or whatever. That's what really makes it for me.

St.Stephen's Day is where it's at. Pretty much the same dinner, but just way more relaxed. Still see family, but kids are a bit less hyper. And just relaxing in front of the fire watching something random on telly, chuckling to yourself while thinking of all the people who were mad to go out and get drunk being unable to do so because the clubs cost at least €20, you can't get near a bar, you can't move around properly, people who have been drinking all day are falling round the place starting fights, and you have a better chance of turning into a giant block of ice and having elves slide you home than you do of getting a taxi.

    ^^

It's the definition of chilling out isn't it. I still go out though, start round 6 sure it's one of the best nights of the year. Wont go as overboard as last year though hopefully.

I can't wait to spend time with family that we don't make time for the rest of the year.

I see you are in Galway...did you drive to work this morning? If so you're bananas! I don't love car spinning out on a straight going 20 km/h. This is the time of year the last few years we have had bad floods, it takes an extra 20-30 mins in the morning to get to work. It's dark when ya leave for work and dark when you're coming home, you can't walk anywhere...I respectfully disagree with your opinion...it is your opinion but damn it, it's just wrong

Thing is, the cold days can be as cold as you like as long as you're on your way home to a warm house.

On the other hand if you're working outside the whole time (gardeners etc.) then this time of year would be uncomfortable!
