Sold 2 six month old suckler calves last week to a dealer for 500 euro. What a joke:mad: - I might as well be breeding Ferrets for all the return I'm getting from this "enterprise" at the moment:(

i dont know your system but first mistake selling to a dealer. he is only going to buy a animal that he can sell on quickly at a profit, you have to cut out the middle man, you and only you bred these animals and chose the breeds of the dam and sire so you have to have to have a look at what the market wants, and not what you want, or keep putting up with the jokes, sorry for being so hard.

These dealers know the value of every animal to within 20 Euro. Trust me, it is their bread and butter. So obviously, they are going to pay you well below what they are worth to make as much as they can themselves.

I can never understand why people dont take them to the mart.

As for making a profit, this is farming afterall.:D

Put it in Context i.e. What Breed / Sex / Weight. E.g 500 would be good value for a 240 Kg Female AA.

The Dealer will have priced to ensure he is making a minimum of €50 a head

Sorry for the delay here - getting the final details off the father in law.

Anyway they were 2 Limousins(male and female) and to be fair could have done with a little extra weight(waits for ferocious slagging from betters on F and F:eek::(;))
