They aren't fixed cameras. They are mobile.

There is no legal obligation on local authorities to erect signs any more than the Gardai don't have to put up a sign saying that there's a drink-drive checkpoint a mile up the road. The law is the law and the authorities don't have to put up signs saying that they are more likely to be enforced here rather than somewhere else. Publishing details of the zones to be targeted was a public information campaign designed to highlight the fact that the cameras were going to be deployed in areas where they were needed rather than as a turkey shoot, that's all.

I'd say that Garda quoted in the Indo was jumping the gun big time because I haven't seen any signs being erected and I doubt if the Government has given the local authorities any money to do so.

Putting up signs would be crazy, the problem would just move a few miles down the road in which case they'd have to move the signs, it would make no sense.

Disagee with you there... the Whole purpose of these cameras is to reduce the Number of Accidents... if you see a sign you the driver will know the road ahead is dangerous and will act upon it...

And ok once you leave this "danger/warning" zone/area you might be tempted to increase you speed to catch up... however what's stopping the cops to having their own camera set up ...

Where have you lived for the past 20 years? There are thousands of signs all over the country warning about things like 'Dangerous bends ahead', 'No overtaking for 5 kms', 'Accident Black Spot' and there are thousands of miles of roads with continuous white lines yet time after time these warnings are ignored by the lunatics who cause death and mayhem on our roads.

The last thing we need are more signs for these idiots to ignore, not to mention the fact that the local authorities have no money to erect new signs anyway.

I've been here in Ireland and I haven't seen an updated 'Accident Black Spot' Sign going up in 10 of those years... And I Agree there are thousands of miles of roads with continuous white lines yet time after time these warnings are ignored by the lunatics who cause death and mayhem on our roads.

I have driven on most roads of the East Coast and From what I have seen on the gosafe map the locations seem to be mostly on the straight roads where the speed will be higher... NOT on the windy roads that have continuous white lines... And the Councils should be getting the Money to ensure we have safe Roads ..from the speed fines they will catch like fish in a Barrel ... on Roads that are incorrectly reduced in Speed limit...
Yes we need to make an example of those that Speed and ignore the basic rules of road... but we need proper Signs in the proper areas with a review of the speed limits most are way too fast or indeed too slow on our N & R roads let alone the L...

You will always have some Lunatics on our roads ... so we need the Law to BAN them from driving if caught, and if repeat offenders LOCK them up...
