1.2 billion cut in public pay.

Is that a f*cking joke? So pay will still be ~ 60% of our tax revenue?

I know Cowen is talking waffle, but he sounds as though someone sat down with him yesterday or today and beat the reality into his head about how people feel, and about the situation he's created for his own kids to grow up to....briefly...

What does the public sector pay cuts mean? Why is RTE radio not covering the speech live?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 370 ✭✭wiseguy

    * public service at 2005 level
    * tax at 2006 level (revenue page for 2006)

When he says "we are a smart resilent people" he should leave out the we bit.

Any chance someone could hack the background TVs to read something else like
"This has been brought to by the IMF, ECB, EU and the joke of an Irish government."

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

1.2 billion cut in public pay.

Nope, ZERO cut in public pay. NO redundancies, NO wage cuts. Only some minor cuts in public sector pensions and some voluntary redundancies...

Minimum wage is being cut by one euro per hour, to €7.75 / hour. But the corporation tax rate of 12.5% has been saved.

VAT is being raised, from its 21% rate today to 22% in 2013, and 23% in 2014. That's meant to save €620m

Dail Internet Feed says the Dail is suspended until 2.30 p.m.

    That's probably why he's wondering.

CT rate must be saved or we would flounder.

Vat rate increase? Major facepalm at that idea, heading up north - vat hikes here, weaker sterling in the future = major savings up north.

I love the semantics\wording of the Teasoich: The crisis that has come to Ireland..

Like something from elsewhere.. when we all know the problems are well rooted at home.

This is quite a gentle set of measures, they've more or less decided to hand over the problems to the next government.

I don't like the way that Gormley is using his preamble for a party political boradcast.

Based on what I've read, there is VERY LITTLE in the way of reform here.

It looks like they have bottled it in the face of the unions.

    That's it.
    Ireland is fcuked now.

There is no doubt in my mind that we are going to default.
I cannot believe they have bottled it.

The banks Brian. What about the banks. Ive no doubt we are getting public finances back on track but its all about the banking system.

It doesn't actually say anywhere what exactly they are going to do.It just gives average figures and average cuts and percentages.

It doesn't give detail!:mad:Surely that was the whole point of this plan?????

And WHY are they increasing VAT? Last time they did that, everyone just flocked over the Border. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

talk about self-contradiction, talking about reducing the minimum wage by €1 and incentivising employment in the sentence
