I live about 20 miles outside of a city in a very small town that is no way not in the arsehole of nowhere.

The bus service - bus eireann - is absolutely dire and always has been.

What did they do recently bus eireann took away some bus services from the area - probably trying to reduce costs.

I overheard a group of young people talking recently. Pretty much to get work in the city they will need a car.

This got me thinking. During such hard times people would probably love to reduce their costs. and one way is perhaps get rid of their car and rely on buses. But they cant because the bus service is just not there.

To get work in the city you are better off with a car, because Dublin Bus are f*cking dire.

If you don't mind me asking where are you? Which bus route are you on?

Perhaps carpooling would be an option?

It's a chicken and egg problem. The bus service is dire, because they can't afford to spend money on a service no-one uses. No-one uses it because it's not any good anyway. You might be able get a private operator on a route if you can convince them it's worth their while.

You might be able to get a private operator if

    (a) they could get a licence and

    (b) they could have any confidence that Bus Eireann wouldn't respond with massive PR, advertising, shiny new buses and a big revamp to the timetable.

You really should talk to your local councillors and TDs about the plan for the area. A good public transport service can transform an area.
