    Hey guys,

I am thinking about a change in career and am interested in possibly getting into film. Could anyone give me any advice on what a good move would be in terms of starting from the start. I have no knowledge of the area and would like to hear of any recommended courses or anything like that?

    Any thoughts??

Trying to revive the thread to get any information. I am interested in directing, producing and writing for films, tv and cartoons. Just don't know where or how to start. Any advice?

Hi Cordo. Are you based in Dublin? I've done a couple of training courses with Filmbase, and I couldn't recommend them highly enough. Even if you want to do a full degree somehere, Filmbase is a great way of getting some ground work in.

They have a couple of courses that are specific to directing. The Directing for the Screen class is one night a week for six weeks, and that's a great place to start. The tutor is Vinny Murphy, who directed Accelerator, and he's a terrific guy. Very knowledgeable, but not at all intimidating about it. I found him an inspiring teacher.

    Have a browse here: http://www.filmbase.ie/training/index.php

[I'm not connected with Filmbase, by the way. :)]

Cheers for that Long Room Hubba, I will have a look now. Is it mainly for Directing or does it cover (or do you know of any other areas that cover) Producing or script writing? Thanks again for the info.

Yeah, I focussed on the directing, but I heard great things about their Producing a Short Film course too. Good luck.
