    Hi All,

I am not sure if this is the correct place for this type of question but here goes. I currently live in Spain and have an R&D company with 25 employees. As I am Irish I would like to open a branch office in Ireland and am wondering how I would go about this, do I need to set up a separate company in Ireland or can it be done in such a way that both companies are linked so essentially I just have one company?

    many thanks

    Colm

You can open a branch here in Ireland. See here:

    http://ec.europa.eu/youreurope/business/expanding-business/opening-branch/ireland/index_en.htm

'As I'm sure you know the corporation tax rate here is half that of Spain's standard rate and there's an R&D tax credit so there may be some benefits to moving business here.

    many thanks,

I am guessing that with the Branch I will have an Irish VAT number and can hire staff locally on Irish contracts, correct?

    Hi,
If you set up an Irish limited company, this wil be a seperate legal entity from your Spanish company. Alternatively you can set up a branch of your spanish company. Have a look at the following page which contains useful information on both options: http://www.companyformations.ie/company-formations/non-resident-companies/ With either option you can employee people and apply for a Irish VAT number. It is more popular to set up a separate company, as it is thought to be better to keep them legally and financially separate. However you may wish to sek professional advice from a tax advisor or accountant here, as it may depend on your particular company. Good luck!
