Swedens minister for finance, Anders Borg, on CNN. What a difference from our ministers, he has an earing in one ear. Small loop type, silver.

Can you see Lenihan with one?:D

Your biological and technological distinctiveness will be added to our own. Resistance is futile.

Thankfully here in Ireland we select our government representatives on something more than just looks.

Does anyone know what that is?

    Nepotism.

Indeed. Cowen, Kenny and Lenihan all took Daddy's seat IIRC.

So what - he has an earring...big deal? Sweden and the other Nordic countries are socially advanced societies - so their Minister for Finance has an earring. Does that affect his job performance? Can he manage Sweden's finances without running the country into the ground and lying through his teeth at the same time?

Iceland has a lesbian Prime Minister - who is trying to clean up the mess left behind by the last one. No-one there bats an eyelid.

Ireland, on the other hand...is just plain backward and corrupt.

PS: Actually it's the ponytail that is a such a turn off for me!!:pac::D

I think that's the point of the OP's post. Whereas here it's a bunch of dated gay/gypsy jibes.

And what exactly is your point Sir?

That wearing an ear-ring makes him a better minister?

They're changeing their constitution so foreigners can hold high office and become Ministers. So you too can become a cool Swedish Minister.

You don't have to be foreignt to wear an earring in Sweden.

An earing? DFamn liberals with no fiscal sence. I mean look how much of a bailour the Swedes needs, QED.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

The point is that social conservatism (reflected in dress) is no guide to fiscal rectitude.

I guess my point is that Sweden is a country that takes people on its merits, not on who their father was. Their finance minister is an economist, how radical would that be in Ireland? We seem to prefer to have solicitors and teachers making decisions that they are patently not qualified for.

A little bit about Anders Borg.

From 1998 to 1999 he was Chief Economist at ABN Amro Bank in Stockholm and from 1999 to 2001 he was Head of the Economic Analysis Department at Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken (SEB) in Stockholm. From 2001 to 2002 he served as an Adviser on monetary policy issues to the Executive Board of the Riksbank (the Swedish central bank).

And yet here in Ireland, I really believe that if he stood for election the most talked about thing would be his earing.

We really do get the leaders we deserve. A bunch of self serving incompetents.
