I'd say the 2nd set the Ram might be the best, as you get a bag and putter as well. Would be a fine set for a beginer in my opinion

I don't like the sets where they throw in bags, putters, woods, irons etc. for about €200. They tend to be poor quality but fine for a beginner. I'd suggest also that you phone up a couple of golf courses or shops and ask if they do 2nd hand sets. You'll get better value here although they won't look as nice initially.

Oh and of the three sets I'd go with the RAM one.

Hi all, I am looking to buy my husband a set of golf clubs for Christmas. He played a little years ago and is interested in taking it up again. He would be very much in the beginner category and is left handed to make things that bit more awkward.

I have come across these three sets in McGurks:

    http://www.mcguirksgolf.com/spalding-xr10-set--lh-/spac0102lhpd.html

    http://www.mcguirksgolf.com/ram-fx100-mens-package-set--lh-/ramc0101lhpd.html

    http://www.mcguirksgolf.com/spalding-sp33-complete-package-set--lh-/spac0103pd.html

I don't want to spend a lot in case he doesn't stick with it, but I don't want to get him the cheapest of the cheap either. Would any of these be any good? Or does anyone have suggestions for a better set for a similar price?

    Thanks in advance!

I'm left handed but play golf right handed. Just because he writes with his left doesnt mean that he plays golf that way!!!

voucher is the safest way to go for sure.

    Thanks for the replies.

have tried this, but finding the left hand sets are hard to come by and the ones I have found have been expensive even second hand.
I'd give him a voucher if I was you to be honest,

Really don't want to go down the voucher route, I just know he'd be disappointed with a voucher on Christmas morning!

He does play left handed, the awkward fecker!

I think I am leaning towards the Ram set, thanks again for the replies.

Not trying to confuse you but all of those sets will be perfect for any beginner. The only thing is they will have no value against a trade in if your husband does want to continue at the game and take it more seriously down the line.

If i was picking tho the Ram set seems to be the best.

If you are thinking of 2nd hand you could try golfbidder, plenty on here have bought from them and I have found them very reliable.
A set of irons like these would be ideal and they are top quality.

Also left handers seem to have a big advantage in the 2nd hand market if ebay prices are anything to go by. Used left handed clubs tend to go for a lot less than used right handed stuff, I guess the demand isn't as high.

If you are sticking to the new full sets posted above, then I would go with the RAMs.
The only problem is that if he gets into the game he will be looking to upgrade soon after and they will be worth very little 2nd hand.

Ask McGurks if they'll change them if not suitable. Explain they are a present and hubby hasn't played for years.

Otherwise a voucher would be better.

You could give a voucher and ask him to go in himself after xmas and try out each one in golf simulator, then he can pick which one he likes best.
