Hi, I hope you can help me

Last night, I started having trouble with my laptop, I noticed new programmes on my desktop, one apparently security and the other called 'createdisk' It was asking me to defragment my computer, and then said it couldnt solve my problems and was asking me to buy a licence.

Obviosuly this made me highly suspicious, and I didnt purchase anything, but then windows msgs were popping up telling my that my RAM was critically low and that my hard disk was suffering a critical failure.

Does anyone know if I likely have a virus, or if theres anything I can do to sort this out?

Also, if there are are good and trusted laptop repair centres in dublin that would be great. Its a Sony VIAO running on Windows Vista, aprox 18months old.

Something like this thread perhaps? It's a virus alright but you'll probably be able to remove it yourself.

Great, Ill give them a call. Have you used this company before?

I think fixing it myself is beyond my limited IT capabilities, so cheers for the advice!

Fix it yourself, they will charge you a joke for re installing an os.

try Compuworld in Dun Laoghaire - I use them a lot & they're very good. Prices seem to be OK, not the cheapest, but there or there abouts. www.compuworld.ie

compfix.ie just quoted me €50 cheaper than anywhere else for a laptop repair. i'll post up whether the job sufficed but the quote was by far the best + they collect and return!
