The warning message looks like a scam so you'll have to assume that you have a virus. Start here and let us know how you get on. You could also Google "HDD Defragmenter Scam" and find out more.

The fan issue may be related and it might sort itself out once you've removed the virus.

Malwarebytes usually can clean up these fake warning applications.

Free version is enough for most people. If it won't install try install in safe mode.

You can use this to manually update if updating doesn't work

    assuming its what caused it...

uTorrent itself isn't a problem, just the stuff you download can be a bit dodgy at times (you need to read comments on torrent sites to see if a download is good or bad).

May not have even came from there. I see a lot of these types of fake apps in work and they get from emails and websites.

uTorrent itself wouldn't be a problem. uTorrent is just used to manage the downloading of files that are distributed via the BitTorrent protocol. You might have downloaded something dodgy using uTorrent or you might have accessed something directly on a website or within an e-mail, it's hard to know sometimes what exact action caused a virus infection.

Result! Make sure that you have a decent and up-to-date antivirus software on the computer too?

No CD-ROM drive? Can you borrow one?

There could be a recovery partition on the laptop which you can boot into and reinstall/repair. If you are going to try to restore the laptop to its original setup then maybe the guy/gal fixing the fan can help you?

What antivrus program have you runing on the laptop and is it up-to-date?

THis virus looks like a variant of the Ultra Defragger one so try the instructions on this page too. In particulat the 'rkill' bit at Step 3 can be important.
