I've used the iPad and it seems pretty cool,
Basically I need a nearly laptop but not to download or do up spreadsheets or whatever,
I basically just want something to surf the web.

I have an iPhone 3GS and the lack of Flash really bugs me,
I understand that the iPad does not support flash either BUT I hear people say "the iPad does not need flash,"
What is that supposed to mean?
Is the flash support on the iPad better then the flash support on the iPhone?

Will the new iPad be out soon? If so apart from a camera on the next iPad is it worth waiting for?

Has there been anything said about flash update for the iPad or has there been anything mentioned about the new iPad supporting flash....

My main issue with buying the iPad is that it doesnt support flash,
Is it as bad as the iPhone in regards to a flash player?
    All help greatly appreciated, thanks.

Forget the iPad then. It doesn't support Flash, and according to Apple, never will. If it bugs you on the iPhone, forget it on an iPad.

The new Samsung Galaxy Pad is out now, and will support flash. Not sure when it will be offered in Ireland though.

Well, there's a work around for the flash(video) issue - skyfire.

Skyfire is a browser that detects flash videos, and can convert them to html5 - its awesome. At the moment it's available for the iPhone but can also run on the iPad. I find it works great on both - and for some reason it plays YouTube videos at a higher quality rate than the actual YouTube app!!

Its also in development for the iPad, so hopefully we'll see it soon.

So, there's not a huge issue with flash and iPad/iPhone anymore.

You can get it from Vodafone, was playing with it in the Grafton Street store about 2 weeks ago. Nice but the screen is not as good as the iPad. Also, there is no wifi only one out yet(think it is next year), so you will have a monthly contract.

can be bought in carphone warehouse up north cheaper than down here 2 with no contract

does it need a sim card to run or can it be simply used on wifi?

Way too expensive. It's not going to trouble the ipad at that price.

Sorry for hijacking thread but thinking of getting iPad for in-laws.
Was wondering if you can view webcams with Skype?
I know that there is no webcam for iPad but is it possible to view the other person through Skype??

    Thanks for that.

Is there any other option/app rather than skype for video calling etc either one way or two way on the iPad??

I bought an Ipad on the view that it would replace my laptop and tv, thus freeing up loads of space in my flat. What a fool I was, a month after buying and I barely use it. No flash is a pain in the hole, all this talk about jailbreaking or buying vpns and streaming from your laptop is all too much for your average person who couldn't be arsed learning what all this stuff means and how it works. I just want to view movies and tv shows on it, is that so much to ask? Surfing the web is also too awkward, and a pain to constantly have to zoom in when text is too small to read.

I think that the Ipad will be decimated when a rival launches a tablet with a bigger screen size, camera for using skype, and the ability to view flash videos. Surfin the web will still be awkward with a touchscreen, but voice recognition and voice control technologies are advancing rapidly so that should sort out that problem within about 5 years. OLED will also mean that the tablets will be a lot lighter, although this won't really be financially fiable until about 10 years time.
