It's because people foolishly give away their passwords into 3rd party applications on Facebook.

Also sites where you can instantly create a facebook group. Like http://www.likeit.us

Before you log in you need to make sure you have as much personal information about yourself stored on your computer. It's always handy to save it all in one file with a name like 'Bank info here' or 'Everything you need to know hacker'.
In this file you should save account numbers, sort codes, credit card info, date of birth & it wouldn't be any harm to record your passport number too.

Just ignore any bizzare random facebook messages. Make sure to tell you friend to change their password. They probably entered their facebook password on a fake website which has now hacked their a/c.
Until they change their password they will keep spamming you.

Spam is more delicious than virtual spam.

    Real life > Internetz Facebook..

They are fake, viral applications E.g: "Miley Cyrus kissing Justin Bieber"
People who add them, agree to letting them post/update your page.

They spam cpa surveys normally. (Cost per action)
If somebody completes a survey. (normally to see the "picture of Miley and Justin") The creator of the application receives money.

This is if you don't log out...;there are some pages on other sites that have these "likes" now, all you have to do is look at the page, not even click the "like" button or anything and it will post something on your wall saying something and inevitably with a link to the page as if it is you who have posted it...
