i have always gotten a red mark on my neck after shaving but recently it has turned into a stinging rash.
i use a Philips electric razor

i have bought sensitive shave balm which seems to help.

but what would be causing it the razor is only about a year old

i have attached photos of the rash

EDIT: forgot to mention that i dont normally go clean shaving i normally just trim but lately i have wanted to give it a go

If you don't regularly clean shave your skin probably just isn't used to it. I'm the same after long periods of beard growth my skin is sensitive after a shave but if I keep shaving it get's used to it and the rash goes away.

When growing the beard I can get flaky skin and a lot of irritation but that goes away once the beard settles in so I'm just assuming while your in between full beard and no beard the skin is changing and is just not accustomed to being shaved. I'd imagine the skin around hair follicles can raise up and contract depending on the stage of growth of the hair.

    Lay mans opinion though.

How regurlarly do you shave? It may be worth investing in a new set of blades for the razor?

I used to use a Philishave years ago and just couldn't get used to it, changed to a Braun and found it was a much nicer shave, couldn't figure it out. Maybe try wet shaving for a bit as it will soften the hairs and make the easier to cut, potentially causing less irriation to the skin.

I'd say its just a case of your skin being sensitive to it, as the lads have said already. Try a few wet shaves, and try to get hold of a moisturiser to use afterwards. After you do that a few times, your skin should build up some strength.

What direction did you shave in? This irritation is often caused by shaving against or across the grain. If you work out what way your facial hair grows then you can remedy this very easily.

I used to get that, only shave after you get out of the shower or get a small mirror and shave in the shower. I gave up on electric razors, cut the face off me.

Run hot water on your face before shaving.
