hitting argentina for 3 weeks next week. hitting BA, the falls, Mendoza and then down south for some hiking in patagonia... what do I need to bring in terms of foot gear / wet gear for el Calfayte ( poor spelling ). Dont really want to bring hiking boots with me. 23 degrees in BA at the moment and 8 degrees further down... tricky to decide what to bring !, any thoughts

Sounds like your average Irish holiday with all sorts of weather possible.

I'd bring shorts for up north and warm clothes for the south. Hiking boots if you're going to be hiking, but at least something more than flip flops if you're going around the glaciers. I remember the wind at Perito Moreno Glacier was nuts. I was very wrapped up and still frozen. And I was there in January at the height of their summer.

I'm sure you could buy some cheap aul boots in Argentina before doing the hiking, might save a bit of hassle? Then just chuck them afterwards or leave them in one of the hostels for the next tourist.

The shoes available in Argentina since the IMF came along are not up to much. I bought a pair of normal shoes with comfortable 'air' soles. Within ten days both shoes were punctured and it was like walking on wooded cloggs. You've been warned...

Oh no!!! Life with the IMF in charge just keeps getting worse. :(

I tracked the mountain gorillas in wellies that I bought in Uganda for 2euro! It's kinda silly buying really expensive stuff just for a few days worth of hiking, unless you already own them.
