Problem with radio on 01 Mondeo

Bit of a problem with the radio in my Mondeo. I can't pick up any radio stations on FM or AM, only LW. I've pulled out the radio & the connections seem ok. The CD is working perfectly. I've tried to connect my iPod using FM transmitter & the radio wouldn't pick it up at all.

Any suggestions on what the problem might be? Any help appreciated!

It depends on what you mean, if the radio is picking up static but no stations, then the antenna wiring would be suspect, If the radio is just silent, then it may be a problem with the radio or the settings.

Do a manual search on AM so the radio is listening to a frequency, on AM there should be plenty of static crashing and banging. The FM has a quietening circuit which will silence it between stations usually.

Some radios have a dx setting which desentisizes the receiver so it will only receive very strong signals. Maybe this has been set incorrectly.

It would be unusual for a radio fault to effect both the AM and FM as they use very different circuits. Only the front end is shared ( where the signals come in), and as the CD is working the amplifier is working.

These are the only quick things I can think of.
If you have a garage with flourescent lights, switching them on with the radio listening to an AM frequency, should pick up the starter clicks even without the antenna working. This would verify the radio is working, but the antenna circuit faulty.

Another check, would be to remove the antenna connection on the back of the radio and attach (poke carefully) a piece of cable into the connection as a makeshift antenna, if the radio works then the installed antenna circuit is at fault.

If you can get hold of another radio connect it into the car if it works well then your radio or its setting are the problem, ( Okay a bit obvious ).

If the radio has a removable front check for dirt or recessed connections on the fixed and removable parts.

I have seen this happen on quite a frew Mondeo's of that age including my own. You will most likely need to replace the stereo itself as I did.
