Sony have taken over the EPG slot held by Film 24.They will launch their own channel in 2011 when Film 24 goes off the air.
Hopefully along with Sky getting exclusive HBO and AMC content with Sky Atlantic launching we're getting some decent tv shows as opposed to the reality tv drivel that's dished up week in week out.

What will they offer, won't it just be a channel advertising their wares ?

Sony is actually also a media label, they have many bands signed to them like the script, it could have something to do with their music label anyway. And they have also backed some films and they could be shown too

    From Digital Spy.
Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has acquired Film24's slot on Sky's electronic programming guide and is preparing to launch its own UK channel in early 2011.

Canis Media - which acquires and sells EPG slots on Sky's satellite platform - took over the management of Film24 in June, after the channel's principal shareholder withdrew funding and placed its future in serious doubt.

Canis brokered the sale of Film24's channel slot at 157 on Sky's EPG to Sony Pictures Television, and is now working with the firm on the channel's "day-to-day management".

Sony currently offers video on-demand content on BT Vision and owns a 50% stake in Virgin Media's FilmFlex VOD service, but it has never launched a standalone channel in the UK.

The media giant will assume day-to-day operations of the Film24 channel in early 2011, when it will presumably launch a new SPT-branded network.

Canis Media chief executive Ed Hall said: "It has been a tremendous pleasure to assist both the previous owners of Film24 and SPT to ensure this transfer took place in a timely and managed fashion.

"We are delighted to bring an SPT-owned channel to our list of managed channels. Canis will manage the channel until SPT assumes day-to-day operations in early 2011."

According to BARB figures, Film24 has an average reach of around 800,000 viewers for its mix of entertainment programming and movies.
