Bleeding during dental cleaning?

I had my dental cleaning yesterday, I was bleeding hard during the cleaning, the hygienist told me it'll be okay as soon as it's finished, but I got blood around the gum until this morning.
and it's very painful, couldn't bite or eat, couldn't drink any hot or cold liquid....

Is it normal? I thought it's painless? or maybe just need some time to recover? how long will it take?

If you gum were very inflamed, a cleaning can set if off bleeding good style. Its usually fine and the gum will heal well into a healthy state, just be sure to continue cleaning the teeth despite the soreness,

If still problems on monday go back to the clinic.

i'd give it longer. if you have enough calculus build up that would require a hygienist visit, then it's pretty likely your gums are well inflammed. it may take a couple of weeks of honest decent cleaning, brushing along the gum line and flossing for the bleeding to stop completely.
if you don't get bleeding while cleaning, you probably aren't cleaning thoroughly enough. give it time and perseverance.

I get my teeth cleaned every 3 months and usually it's fine with just a little blood during cleaning and they're fine after. I'm pregnant at the moment so while my gums are in great condition they bled quite a lot more than normal during the last cleaning and they were sensitive/sore for a few days after. I know enough now to make sure I clean them as thoroughly as usual and not go easy on them just because they're sensitive.

I think, in my experience, if your gums are inflammed at all before cleaning then they'll bled more and they will be sensitive for a few days after.

    Thanks for all replies :)
after half an hour brushing teeth and washing mouth this morning, part of the gumline still red, looks like flesh without skin (I thought that was blood), the area below the gumline turned white....
    looks like it'll take a while:pac:

tbh i'd be more worried if they weren't a little sore or bleed when it was done!
sounds like you'd a thorough job
