I am in the process of setting up cleaning and fitering system for waste veegie oil for van and putting heat exchanger in engine.

soemone mentioned to me today that revenue won't be happy as they don't get their huge cut in diesel tax.

Anyone know if it is legal to produce and drive a vehicle on used veggie oil??

Rules and regulations in this country are a joke when it comes to using veg oil. I had a customs man come visit me when I called them to enquire about using veg oil, waste veg oil and making my own biodiesel.
He told me that if you want to pay duty on it you have to register as a business, a something warehouse it's called, can't remember the exact term used. A private individual can't just use it and then go in and pay duty unlike the UK where you can use 2500L of new oil duty free or home Biodiesel duty free.
Basically here unless you're a company you can only use fuel you buy at the pump.

no one convicted of it yet, i know people who were dipped with it,customs could not careless, all there looking for is green,
was told by a biodiesel producer about another loop hole, one he claims he has in paper from customs,
if you go up north and fill your car with red diesel, and exit north with out getting caught driving on red diesel the customs here will not care if they dip your tank and find red in it,
as your not ripping off irish revenue, its uk problem, so as long as you dont drive around uk with it your fine.
i dont believe this myself, but he claims its true, and customs told him so,

As far as i know, you cant run your vehicle on 100% svo. You are allowed a certain % mix diesel/oil in the republic. There used to be a place in slane openly selling bio-diesel to the public so it is legal to use it, just not too much of it per tank

From what I understand it's only legal to use any fuel once excise has been paid. Outside the normal exemptions for agri/off-road vehicles, there is no legal basis for using a fuel in a road vehicle without having paid excise.

That place in Slane could have been selling properly excised bio-diesel.
