Can anyone give me any info on this? :)
I heard that an Irish citizen can join the US armed forces. However he has to be be a resident / have a green card of the United States.

So the question is, how does someone get the status to get into their army?
Because i've heard through friends that the only way to get into the states is to have a skill-in-need?

Am I on the right track of thinking? or totally off? :P

Ok I call you a liar or ask you to prove what you just said. I am going for the latter. If you could induluge me? Please.

    Heres my hand

In order to join the US Military, you must either be a US citizen, or you must be a legal permanent immigrant, physically living in the United States, with a green card. The US military cannot and will not assist with the immigration process. If you are not a US citizen, you must legally and permanently immigrate to the United States first, via the regular immigration procedures and quotas, establish a residence, and then (if you meet the other qualifying criteria), visit a military recruiter's office and apply for enlistment.

In order for a non-citizen to enlist in the military, he/she must first be a legal immigrant (with a green card), permamently residing in the United States. It's important to note that the military cannot and will not assist in the immigration process. One must immigrate first, using normal immigration quotas and procedures, and -- once they've established an address in the United States -- they can find a recruiter's office and apply for enlistment.

This is not anyone this is either a PR of america or a citizen.

OP - the bottom line is that to enlist you must at a minimum have a green card and you must obtain this yourself - the military will not sponsor you for immigration purposes.
To become an Officer requires U.S. Citizenship.

TBH the chances of you obtaining a green card are pretty slim.
Also, thanks to the recession and all that malarky, it's gotten harder to join defense forces in the US and plenty of other countries.
I.e. the amount of people applying has soared so they can afford to be more selective.

Joining the British Army may be a more realistic option...

This is probably your only chance:

    http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1322.html

It runs once a year and as you can see it's lottery.

The most common method of gaining a green card is through a relative. After that special skills or having a profession that is in demand is the way to go.

Apply for the diversity lottery next year. You never know.
