YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS Best news i've had for a long time :-)

According to the official blog of Francis Zégut, host of the show "Pop Rock Station" on the French radio station RTL2, SYSTEM OF A DOWN will perform at the Palais Omnisports de Paris Bercy in Paris, France on June 6, 2011. This is expected to be one of many gigs the reunited band will play in Europe during next summer's festival season. An official announcement on the matter, with more details about the group's future plans, could come as early as next week.

When asked about the possibility of a full-blown SYSTEM reunion during an August 2010 interview with The Pulse of Radio, singer Serj Tankian replied, "Shavo [Odadjian, bassist] got married like two months ago, we were all at his wedding, and you know, we all talk, we're friends, nothing's changed, and we get offers to play shows, tours, whatever, and we discuss them once in a while. We have not made any decisions as of yet as to what we're gonna do. But when we do, it'll be quite obvious."

(A short audio clip of Serj Tankian talking to The Pulse of Radio about SYSTEM OF A DOWN's status is available at this location [Real Media].)

Meanwhile, Odadjian himself said in a recent interview with Hustler magazine that SYSTEM went on an "indefinite break" to save the band from splitting up permanently.

Odadjian explained, "We won a Grammy and we had two number one records. We were making a lot of loot [money]. Then some people within the group of four brothers started seeing things differently . . . and their actions made the reactions of others pretty unbrotherly-like."

The bass player added, "All of a sudden band members are having problems financially. . . . [and] fighting about, 'I want my style of music to be this and that.' I love them. They're my brothers, but I couldn't see my brothers digging into each other's pockets and killing each other's artistic creativity."

Odadjian said that the band members vowed to come back "when we again have the hunger and the fire in our eyes that we did when we started SYSTEM OF A DOWN."

SYSTEM OF A DOWN has been on hiatus since 2006 while its members have pursued various personal projects. Tankian released his first solo album, "Elect The Dead", in 2007 and a follow-up effort, "Imperfect Harmonies", earlier this year, while bassist Shavo Odadjian recorded with members of the WU-TANG CLAN and launched a new online music initiative. Meanwhile, guitarist Daron Malakian started a new band called SCARS ON BROADWAY, also featuring SYSTEM drummer John Dolmayan.

Be interesting to see do they write any new material or just tour to make a bit of money (going by Shavo's quote).

Wouldn't mind seeing them even though I don't listen to them really anymore.

They do have some fantastic songs though, just plenty of filler too.

    Fingers crossed this is true

Wouldn't have thought they'd have time to write new stuff, maybe a track or 2 at most.

Seen them so many times and they're just awesome, first time at Dynamo festival in Holland in '98, so low down on the bill but ya just knew they were gonna be huge

Not going to make anything of this until there's a statement from the band. Still, would be great! Haven't listened to them properly in years also but would love to see them live.

Great news. I thought that I would never get the chance to see them live and would have to make do with tribute acts. Let the speculation of an Irish date next summer begin.....:P

In fairness these guys were well off the boil by the time they split up so I wouldn't be getting too excited about this. They had two fairly solid albums, one so-so album and then two total dumps.

I saw them in Punchestown and they were amazing, but there was a steady and rapid decline after that which was very disappointing.

As Dr. P says, they do have plenty of filler but a bit like the nursery rhyme - when they were good, they were very, very good!

Really? I thought the Scars on Broadway was overblown, yelpy and irritating. On the other hand Serj's efforts have been far better, especially Imperfect Harmonies. Instead of rehashing the old System formula (which as evidenced by Scars required both frontmen to work) he went in a new direction and the music was the better for it.

But yes, a System reunion would be amazing :D

    Sorry, meant after the tour.

I'd definitely go and see them though. I loved them for years and some of the songs would be amazing live I'd imagine.

    Gotta love that money!

Would like to see them live though - mainly for their older stuff...

would love to go and see them, only got into them properly after they "went on hiatus".

Hearing rumours that they'll be headlining Download with a DLR fronted Van Halen, let's hope they slot in a gig at The Point around that time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

    UGH

Are they still that big? Would love to see a small London date where they play their self titled debut in its entirety.

    Think I'll skip anything else.

I'd go and see them if this turns out to be true because I missed them completely the first time around

I also hope this is true, I was gutted when they split up amd I could never imagine them re-uniting. I'll travel if I have to just to see them!

    Some easy listening :D

I used to be a huge SOAD fan, but then I saw them live at Ozzfest and it was one of the worst live performances I've ever seen from a band. They were too drunk to play properly (Daron especially) and didn't really give a crap. Bitterly disappointing as they were one of the main bands I went to see that day.

    Good news if it happens

I'd love to see SOAD live

"The reunited System of a Down will be one of the headliners of next year's edition of the Rock am Ring and Rock im Park festivals, set to take place June 3-5, 2011 in the German towns of Nürburgring and Nürnberg, respectively.

System of a Down's much-rumored comeback/reunion tour is expected to be "officially" announced on Monday, November 29, along with details of several European festival appearances in 2011, including the U.K.'s Download."

Aint gonna happen, would be logistically impossible for them to get full gear from Switzerland to Dublin for a show the next day.

Id say they will do the Festival Circuit first then prob head back to America/Canada then come back maybe for a proper tour (with or without an album).

Think i might head to either Rock Im Park or Download

They played Ozzfest at Punchestown in 2002, I dunno if they played any other Irish shows.

I'd be surprised if they didn't end up on the Graspop lineup as well. For me it's either that or Download for my festival fix.

I saw them the day before the Punchestown gig at Ozzfest at Download, what a fcukin nightmare day that was.

Wind was mental, and they even considered cancelling the gig due to the high winds, System were Special Guests and only played a 30odd minute set, a lighting rig fell from the top of the stage and brained one of there roadies.

Ozzy was fine, if i recall he cancelled the Dublin show next day and System headlined, saying that Zakk had the flu, complete bollox, Zakk was fine, Ozzy couldn;'t cope with 2 shows in 2 days

Pricey pricey, and concerts in Italy tend to be cheap.

Saw them in Paris last week, which was awesome.

Gotta say though that the gig kinda fell a bit flat in the second half for me (not sure why), but the first half rocked my socks off :D

Also, Serj didnt seem to have much of a stage presence during the concert, thought he would be much more involved/animated.

And no encore (but maybe they are just against such a cliche?)

Saw them at Download last weekend. They were phenominal - best band there by a long shot.
