    Mod: Please amend thread title to reflect Incident as opposed to crash as this may not be the case.

    I know a cessna citation that had been based in weston before that was used for the transport of medical stuff (the plane that crashed was transporting human organs) - i wonder if it was the same aircraft?

    anyone got any idea?

    Sounds like you could be right... I took this from PPrune:

    "IF it is VUEM, we saw this aircraft taxiing out at BHD for a short notice (and short distance flight) to BFS this morning. The crew said for a transplant flight. This MAY explain the degree of urgency to get to where they were going. Good luck guys, thinking of you."

    According the the BHX website there is one critical, the other's not serious

    Birmingham Airport closed

    Birmingham Airport closed
    We can confirm that an incident has occurred at Birmingham Airport involving a private Cessna aircraft. The incident occurred on arrival into the Airport and the emergency services were in attendance.
    There were two people on board, both males. One male is critical and was airlifted to a local hospital. The second male is suffering back pain and flash burns and has been transferred to a local hospital by road.
    The airport is currently closed and is not likely to reopen before at least 20:00 this evening.
    Those due to travel to the airport this evening should contact their airline for further guidance and not come to the airport at this time.
    No further information is available at the moment.

    Just in:

    One fatality and airport now closed until further notice.

    Source?

    Thankfully you were wrong.

    Never quote info you find on another message board as fact, unless it is from an official source.

    There couldn't be a better example of this than this post.

    These things gather pace on the internet. It's a small community. It doesn't take long to do the rounds.

    People see something and tend to trip over themselves to be the first one to blurt out their "exclusive" online without waiting for an official source.

    That's what pisses me off about this forum, whay can't ya speak normal and call an airport by it's name and not code, some people read this forums and don't have a clue. We're not all pretend pilots ya know

    Transporting an organ for transplant. The organ was delivered to the hospital by a police officer on a motorbike.

    (BBC news last night)

    I did NOT grab that info from another forum. The call which advised that info came from an Air Traffic Control Provider (who will remain nameless).
    Thankfully the info passed and subsequently posted by me was wrong. I am going to delete that post as it's incorrect.

    now now no need for that;) if your not sure what ADL/EZE etc is rather than complain why not ask the poster what airport indentifer it is,I am sure they will let you know airports are known from two different codes the first one been the IATA code which most people would know from going on holiers etc the second one is ICAO which most people would not know.
    Take these two for example
    Dublin
    IATA = DUB
    ICAO = EIDW
    Stanstead
    IATA= STN
    ICAO = EGSS

    I have allways used the IATA code while working for the airline all our stations through out the world also use them i only know a few of the airports under the ICAO code:o.

    tippilot let us do the moderation please . I agree with you that correct detail is important to avoid rumours spreading etc but in this case he was relying on good info and its not your place to chastise.

    scudzilla i'm sorry it annoys you that people use Aviation terms in the Aviation & Aircraft forum but its a bit like complaining about Spanish being used in the Spanish forum....simply ask anyone if you don't understand whats being discussed, nobody will shoot you down for asking questions, most people enjoy sharing knowladge. If they do give you stick i'll sort em out. Also probably 50% of the posters here don't pretend to be pilots, they do it every day for a job or every weekend for fun.

    No probs. Your moderating gig is safe(for now;)).

    I wouldn't say the info was "good" -as it has been proven. Aviation is one of those areas where the grapevine is a fantastic source of info . This industry seems to thrives on rumours and speculation.

    Hearing some "breaking news" in the course of a phone call is fine when it relates to such things as aircraft orders or new routes. Declaring it publicly on an internet forum is also harmless.

    Not so when it comes to fatalities.

    There is a reason even the press wait for an official announcement. There are also reasons official announcements are not made immediately.

    This particular "announcement" irked me. I make no bones about it. My response was reactionary yes, but I stand by it.

    It wasn't an attempt to police the forum.

    In all fairness, had this piece of info actually been "moderated" we wouldn't be having this discussion( 3 days later). It is quite a dangerous thing to post.

    This industry is tiny. For example, an acquaintance of mine operates a private jet in Birmingham. Unrelated, but however. Also, there are plenty of Irish pilots operating in such roles across the water.

    In that sense, the aviation industry is a little different than most.

    Info like this should carry a warning: "handle with care". It's easy to forget anything said here is said publicly.

    As someone that you can add to the percentage you quote that do it every day as a job, I'm sure you can understand where I'm coming from.

    Just a thought.

    Rgds

    Tippilot
