Putting a dress on ebay?

I got a dress recently for a work do, but after a night wearing it I realised it just wasn't me! I'm quite large chested, and it was strapless on one side so it annoyed my head falling down all night too, and it just made my boobs look huge :/ Anyway, I'm sickened at having paid €70 for it when I'll never wear it again. I was thinking I could ebay it? Has anyone sold clothes on ebay before? Do you have to pay them to set up an ad? I wouldn't be sure how much to charge for it either, like I've literally only worn it once!

Alternatively I was thinking if there was a swap shop around or something..but the only place I know of is Shebeen Chic and I never see anything I like in there tbh.

Yeah you have to pay a fee to sell it and paypal fees too. Maybe try adverts.ie which is free :)

Yeah it costs about a euro to put the ad up and then sellers fees are about 9% of the selling price.

Maybe try the swopshop in Templebar, Adele who runs it is lovely and often has really nice, high quality stuff. She has regular 'wishlists' on the facebook page so you could wait to swap for something specific that you want

The ebay fees tend to be worth it in my opinion as ebay has such a better market than adverts.ie, gumtree, swopshops etc. The fees are usually quite negligible.
However, I would advise you to be very realistic when estimating the value of your now second-hand dress. I think people get very strange ideas about how much their used clothing is worth! I mean, unless it's a sought after item this season! Think about how much you'd pay for it - not in the context of a nicely presented shop where you can bring it back if you change your mind - but rather as a used and rejected item of clothing.
The brand makes a big difference! If it's Topshop or All Saints or French Connection you'll get a lot more than if e.g it's Dorothy Perkins, Awear, Oasis. Even if it's a similar dress! Branding really works.
Also I'd advise you to present it well, maybe model it in good lighting and best of all show a picture of the dress from the website where the brand will have showcased it well. Good luck!

I couldn't agree more with all of this. I've been selling for a few years on ebay now and no matter how much you paid for your item, if its not presented as best it can be it could sell for as little as a fiver. Although new sellers are tempted to have starting prices of half the cost of their item.

My items were selling pretty badly for a while so I've decided to use the 'buy it now/best offer' function and i've sold a couple of things so far.

    good luck!

I have an unworn wedding dress to sell. Was thinking of putting it on ebay, but i dont know how much packing would cost.
Can you advertise, and then add packaging costs later?

hm, no you need to put a price. you could call into your local and PO and ask for a price. its a pain, but that's the way ebay is!

You don't have to add the price. You can tell people to email you to ask if you want but it will probably remove some interested. Just buy a padded envelope, put the dress in and then weigh it. Then look on the An Post website and it gives you the cost by weight to various countries.

You can log on to ANPOST.IE and estimate your packaging costs there, by weight. So if you weigh the dress first and allow a little extra for wrapping, you can choose say 1.2kg and it'll give you the cost for packaging there. Excellent little service!
