Graeme McDowell has blasted an excess luggage charge by Cathay Pacific Airlines -- for carrying the US Open trophy.
McDowell was checking in at Singapore's Changi Airport on Monday afternoon on his way to the UBS Hong Kong Open straight after finishing joint third in the Barclays Singapore Open.
The airline adjudged his luggage to be over the weight and demanded an excess fee of around €300. Shane Lowry, checking in at the same time, had a similar amount of luggage, with the exception of the US Open trophy, and paid no excess.
"All because I was carrying the US Open trophy that I brought to Shanghai, Singapore and on to Hong Kong, so that people could admire it," said an angry McDowell.

....hardly a meltdown is it? Who cares!

Regardless of how much money someone has, Gmac is right to speak out - airlines are a disgrace these days when it comes to charges.

At least we don't need to look too hard for the worst thread of the year though...

well tbf when i jokingly referred to it as a meltdown i didnt make clear, to all those of varying degress of joylessness, that it was tongue-in-cheek.

i dont really give a toss about it either. it just struck me as a tad absurd and somewhat humour-some and that it might be of some small interest to those who frequent a forum dedicated golf and golf related topics.

but youre right... what was i thinking!?

The important thing is that you learn from this. Now, let's move on from this as better people.

    Move on!?

Things were going along swimmingly until the dark lords of boards.ie/golf arrived on the scene with the dull, pompous remarks.

..... probably due in no small part to theyre total lack of any self confidence outside the realm of internets.

now, lets move on from this with less negativity towards folk just sharing some general info ( thats golf related )

Why would anybody care that you think its a crap thread? Keep it to yourself next time.

The very top of the op's post has a smiley face, which straight away says the thread title was a bit of a joke.

Pity there's not a sarcasm emoticon. Would have saved you making an arse of yourself too.

Do you not know what Sifter's like by now? You have to expect that from him.

Fair play G-Mac , its not about the money !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,844 ✭✭✭Jimdagym

Ricky Fowler had a similar incident a couple of weeks back. He tweeted that the hotel wifi was cack and he would tweet whenever he could, but that he refused to pay monstrous 3g roaming charges. He obviously got jip over it, because he retweeted that its not about the money, he can obviously afford it. Its the principal of the thing.
    Fair play to him.
