Hi Guys, I have a very important supplier (He's NON EU) is planing to visit our company in Dublin and catch a plane back at Dublin Airport on the second day, he'll land in belfast Intl airport ,currently he's only holding a UK Visa. we'll need to drive the company car up to the north to pick him up from there.

the question is..... have any of you ever see a border check on the A1/M1 motorway when entering the republic from north of the border when cops can pull him out to get the documents checked? if that's been the case, I have ask him to change his flight asap.

    appreciate your input on this.

As long as he doesn't go on the rampage and come to the attention of the gardai he will be fine.

I have once. I was coming down from Donegal with an Albanian and a Tunisian who did not have UK visas, so weren't officially allowed pass though NI... of course we did anyway. The bus was stopped at the entrance to the M1 at Ardee, and the Tunisian was checked for papers.

Realistically, the chances of a check are slim, and I hate to say it, but if your friend is white, even if they're checking, it is unlikely anyone will ask anything of him as a passenger in a car. (Notice, the Albanian was never checked for papers in the bus, the Tunisian was.)

If he's not white though, make sure he gets an Irish visa. It's actually a suprisingly quick and painless process.

Buses are actually checked quite regularly but the chances are slim in a car.
