Did you set up a company or register a business name with the CRO?
If your business has ceased then you should deregister and file a return for the period.

If its a company then you will need to have the company struck off the register.

    Hi Tom,

I don't think you understand what Alan Shore was asking you.

You have said you set up a "sole trader company", but there is no such thing - you were either a sole trader or a Limited company. If you are a sole trader then all you did was register a business name with the CRO. (This would be much simpler to resolve.)

On the other hand did you actually set up a Limited Company? To do this you would have probably paid a company formation agent to set it up, and you would have had to appoint directors etc...

No-one can here can give you adequate advice until you clarify what exactly you have registered - sole trade or Limited company.

As regards the tax registration, if you (or your Limited company, whichever is the case) genuinely never traded at all, then the simplest thing you could do is to call in to your local tax office and they will have the form to deregister you. That is the simple part.

If you come back with the detail of what it is you registered with the CRO then someone can tell you what else needs doing.
