charging spare battery

I have a spare car battery that i used to jump my car last winter and charged it today. It took the charge ok. Is there any way to determine the overall 'health' of it. It is 3 years old but was only used about 3 months in my previous car. It would not fit my current cart but i kept it when trading.

Where should i keep it, in the shed or house. Currently it is in the utility room.

    Thanks

Where are you based? If you're around Galway, I have a battery teter you can use.

As for where to keep it, I keep my spare in the garage (part of the house); ideally I'd leave it in the shed, but I don't know how the cold and damp would effect it.

Wherever you put it, stand it on wood or lots of cardboard to slow the discharge of it.

It's fine to put it directly on concrete too but the extra insulation does no harm, also concrete can get very very cold in winter.

Frost will eventually kill a battery if it's not getting regular charge,i'd recommend you buy one of the solar panel trickle chargers from maplin etc only cost a few quid and will keep the battery topped up for when you need it.
