was out today on a couple of new spots i have recently been given permission on. plenty of bunnies darting here there and everywhere. missed a tricky bunny but id say he felt the wind of the shot.
the dog worked like a shire horse but to be honest acted up a little bit when she could taste one or two bunnies they were that close.

anyway got to a hill in the corner and knew something was on when she gave that solid tail just before dropping the head to the ground for the scent. beautiful big cock pheasant got up and literally hovered for me to shoot it. an absolute sitter. and i furking missed it. then i totally rushed the second shot. i was sick. the dog was discusted. :o:o:o

on a positive though i managed to sting a very high wood pigeon and it dropped a good way off into some brambles, was delighted when the dog stopped, marked and darted to the brambles and emerged with said bird. got another pigeon on the way back to the van. really enjoyed being out and am i made up with the dog but im bulling with myself over that cock pheasant.

I hunt behind two myself. Two springer dogs one is going for 3 years old and the other is about 19 months. I have shot pheasants over both of them this year and hope to go for woodcock at the weekend. The springer is the most exciting dog to hunt behind in my opinion.

ye she's great to watch. i actually lost the shot on the odd bird last year from watching the dog instead of the hedge line. :o:rolleyes:
