I swear, each time I hear something about this guy he seems to have put his foot in it. Not so much for the usual sort of gafs that politicians make, but as if he's said something that will portray himself or Republicans in a bad way. Having heard a few things about him on NPR and in reading some stuff on wiki (with a grain of salt), it seems like his tenure as RNC Chair has been a shaky one or at least somewhat colourful.

Perhaps someone who is more informed about him could comment..

These guys aren't supposed to have a high profile. You're not supposed to have heard about him. You're not supposed to know what he does on a daily basis (Raises money, sits at functions, grimy boring sort of things) He seems to be doing a very bad job.

From what I remember republicans seem to have wanted to sack him for some time. I don't know a whole lot about him but he seems to vehemently opposed to Obama. At the same time his efforts to extend the voter base of the republican party to Hispanics and African Americans is surely a positive. As RNC chairman it seems he wants to steer the republican base onto traditionally democratic territory although with no success.

This is an interesting read about him

So it's kind of a caretaker role of sorts, then?

Has he really done all that much to broaden the appeal of Republicans, as in translating that into votes, or has the Tea Party done more? Thanks for the link.
