Changing lanes on a junction

Hey guys, quick question, I was approaching a junction just earlier, the lanes approach, right to go right, middle to go right or straight, left to go straight only.
The road at the right hands turn also has three lanes with the same structure.

As I always do here I approached in the middle lane and turned to end in the middle lane, this its usually not a problem. But today when I did it I was met with screeching brakes and a horn. Guy in a jeep tried going from the right hand approach lane to the middle lane which I was occupying mid turn.
He then put on his full beams and drive behind me with his foot on the horn for a few hundred yards before hoping a second lane left to get along side me and make angry faces in my passenger window. Before taking the next left turn.

I just want some confirmation before I start calling this individual the names I'm saving up for him

Sounds like you were in the right there. Even though he was turning, he was still executing a lane change as he turned, and thus should have made the appropriate observations before altering his position

so two right turn lanes lead to 3 lanes straight away after the turn? Which of these 3 is your lane leading into?

The wording of your OP makes it sound like you are changing lanes mid turn and cutting him up, but it's hard to say.

Middle to middle is meaningless, whoever is changing lanes is totally in the wrong.

Could you post a Google Maps / Google Streetview link to the place?

Yeah two right turn lanes heading on to a road with three lanes. I know our seems awkward to visualize. If you know cork it's mc curtain street turning right towards the quays.

Imo I'm maintaining the same position on both roads. Surely this is the right thing to do?

    Edit_
I'm on mobile so I can't post a street view now. Sorry

if i am reading this right the op was where the taxi is in the streetview pic and was turning away from the camera to end up in the middle lane,
and the jeep came up the inside and tried to get into middle lane and went nuts when someone was is his way:D

I think I know it and I think you are in the right, he is changing lanes not you.

That sounds about dead on the money though I can't see the view. So an accident wouldah been absolutely not my fault if he had gone into me broadside?

People do this all the time here:

    http://maps.google.ie/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=53.24175,-6.152111&daddr=&hl=en&geocode=&mra=mift&mrsp=0&sz=16&sll=53.240744,-6.151013&sspn=0.008758,0.027874&ie=UTF8&ll=53.240937,-6.151013&spn=0.008758,0.027874&z=16&iwloc=ddw0

There are 3 lanes that lead up to the traffic lights. The left lane is for leading into the business park that has not been built yet. The middle and right lane are for if you are continuing down to the roundabout.

Half the time people use the left lane to try skip the tiny queue and then force their way in, and the other half they just move into the middle lane when they go through the lights. Drives me insane!

I'd understand trying to avoid ques at least, with this asshole tonight there were only the two of us there and he still tried cutting me off/in half.

Though skipping traffic by driving on the hard shoulder then muscling in to a lane or roundabout should be a two year diving ban. Never an excuse beyond impatience

I was in a situation today where the traffic lights were out in a particular place that is often busy. It was a four-lane crossroads, but I was turning left, so no big deal, right?

Well, I checked there was noone coming from the right, and turned off to the left. But the guy that was opposite me also was turning off that way. And he was there at that side of the road before me and started coming across at the same time I was making my turn. And for one terrible moment I thought maybe he was going to cut across me. He didn't.... but he came *just* behind me, the sort of thing where if I slowed up a bit on my turn he would probably hit me.

And I've been wondering, should I have let him go ahead of me? After all, he was there first. I would hate to be in his position trying to turn right on a fairly busy road like that.... I think it's a fault of my driving that I often don't let people go if I'm a bit tense myself about a junction and not used to the flow of traffic.

There is also that place in the city centre near pope's at the other side of the river, where it's like a "local rule" that you if you want to turn left to go into the right lane and go up the hill that you should go in the left lane.... even though it says on the right lane that you can use that lane to go left. That's really the lane you're supposed to be in if you want to turn off to the right lane. I gave and got some odd looks when I tried using the correct lane for that a few times.

Hmm, that's tough! Out of order traffic lights can make things a bit confusing for traffic! With roads of equal importance, sometimes making progress depends on if other traffic lets you go, and it's important to look everywhere and anywhere for potential hazards - it's actually quite a dangerous scenario.

In theory, you were turning left and and he was turning right, and if there was a centreline, he would have to cross it - so you would have right of way. However, it sounds like you didn't observe properly - check everywhere with out of order traffic lights (do it anyway, but make an extra effort to do it with out of order traffic lights) for cars that look like they are about to go. Move out slowly and tentatively - make sure other cars can see you are about to move.
