Does/Should the rain affect Sky?

Had a rant before about many of the channels with Sky not being available and tried the helpful advice provided by your good selves about checking phones etc interfering with the signal.

Nothing helped so rang Sky and threatened to cancel so got a free call out about 8 weeks ago. Bloke took one look and replaced the LNB. All was well until the recent spell of brutal weather.

Now when it rains many of the channels aren't available and checking the signal test frequently the signal strength is okay (about 50% of the bar) but the quality is zero.

Given that the LNB has only been replaced could it be the dish? Its only about 5 yrs old and whilst there is rust its primarily around the bolts.

Any advice other than to try UPC and really dance with the devil..!!!

He should have checked the dish alignment while he was at it.If the dish is properly aligned rain will have little effect on it bar a serious downpour or thunderstorm.

    yep, slight misalignment.
if you can reach the dish yourself you should be able to tweek it,
Needs at least 2 people if you haven't got a signal meter.

Thanks for the advice - maybe I can blame the kids for booting a football against it.

This is probably an obvious one but why do I need two people - is it one to tweak the dish and the other to watch the signal test bars?

Yes. Also its the quality strength bar that counts. Get it as high as you can!

first thing to check would be if the skew of the LNB is set right, as this doesn't require losening the dish bolts.

And don't forget there's a delay of a few seconds after you shift the dish before the new signal/quality strength appears on the display!

Thanks for the advice, tried the re-aligning using a highly technical means of trial and error. Only needed to move the dish a tiny bit and the signal is much better. Will be interested to see how it survives the next thunderstorm and hurricane.
