Just wondering if anyone knows where to get stats for 2010 JC. i.e. what percent of students received 12 honours, what percent got 11 honours etc.....

Examinations.ie only has a breakdown within each subject..

    Thanks

I don't think the SEC are interested in that sort of statistic. They are interested in the subject grade breakdowns, gender breakdowns and numbers passing at least 5 subjects.

If someone has time in Athlone, I suppose they could run a query on the database but many of their staff are involved in school WSEs, organising the practical examiners fro next term and getting next year's exam papers sorted at this time of year.

Agreed, but they evidently do release some of this kind of information at results time.

For example, the newspapers often report the numbers of students getting lots of A grades.

This article in the Irish Times, http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2010/0915/breaking1.html, mentions that "This year 15 students scored 12 As or more in higher-level subjects, while a further 120 secured 11 As."

However, I don't see this kind of data in the SEC press release, so maybe it's provided separately to the newspapers.

You get a certain amount of this kind of aggregated data in their Annual report, if you're prepared to wait that long. For example, 2008 info is in Table 4, appendix D (page 46) of this report http://www.examinations.ie/about/SEC_Annual_Report_08.pdf

Thanks MathsManiac , I was thinking there must be more statistics available as the media do report stuff where I wonder where they got their stats.
cheers for the 2008 anual report,,,
you'd think with all these computers and knowledge smart economy stuff that as soon as the results have been counted and appeals dealt with then it'd be just a matter of a drop down menu to arrange the data..
