Hair Colouring Fiasco

    Hi!
I need some advice. Okay, to cut a long story short, I have been growing out blonde highlights since last December. It's a painful process and I stupidly didn't see it out fully the first time I did so a few years back (made it 10 months before the regrowth got too much to take) so this is second time around; but I'm intent on going back au naturel. I decided in September to get semis for the remainder of the growing out stage so as I could wear my hair down and things without the dreadful looking two tone effect. I was pretty clear I wanted it as close to my own colour (darkish blonde) or lighter if possible. Was assured of this, and the girl said she wouldn't even put any in the top of my hair that had grown out, just toner to blend it with the colour going onto ends. Basically, when the hair was dried it was dark brown. Wasn't happy, but I'm terrible for not piping up about such things, and besides, I consoled myself that it'd be washed out soon enough and I'd get a much lighter semi next time.

The problem is, I am now 99 per cent certain a permanent colour was put in my hair, and obviously am livid and upset in equal measure. The colour was put in in September, and should be long gone by now. I'm trying to GET RID of permanent colour that was already in my hair! So my question is, I need this out of my hair, and I know stripping is the method they use for this. Now, I've heard hairdressers are reluctant to do this as it's damaging and try to talk you out of it. I'm just looking for advice from anyone who has had it done or anybody who knows more about me than hair? Will the place I had it done do it for me if I explain my situation? Or does anywhere know of any places in Dublin that do it? If they strip it out, will the highlights below come out too? I'm not waiting for it to grow out; I asked for a semi and not a permanent dye.

Sorry this has turned into a huge tangent.

Sounds like you've really been throught the mill! Personally i wouldn't trust the same salon to touch my hair again, but thats just me. Stripping the colour out of your hair is actually more damaging than colouring it, and will leave your hair delicate and fragile for months. Add to that the fact that you will have to re-colour your hair immediately. Not really ideal.

Have you looked into ColourB4? It takes the colour out of your hair without damaging it, and leaves the natural hair colour beneath. You can buy it in the chemist-i got it in Boots. My hair was coloured in a salon about 8 months ago, and was incredibly dark and i had been colouring at home to cover the hack job(and the greys!) but it was getting darker and darker. Put this in and its taken the majority of the black brown out(am going to use another box as my hair was nearly black) but my hair is in better condition than after colouring-very soft and no dryness at all! your recommended to use a wash out colour after to cancel any red tones that might be left in the hair shaft. Its about €12, you'll find it in the same aisle as the hair colours, and i would definitely recommend it!! There's a thread here about it too(reminds me-i have to update on that!!)

What is the colour difference between your roots and the dyed portion of hair now?

    +1 on colour b4

Worked a treat for me when the brown 'semi' die that came out near black wouldn't fade....

    Try the normal strength one

Thanks, girls. Wrote a big response last night and it never posted, grr. Veruca Salt, can't see a difference between roots and ends; so much toner was lashed on that it's all the same as far as I can see. It's a dark brown which has become gradually redder over time. Can't see any of my own hair colour besides two wee wisps of blonde baby hair at the front of my head, which were obviously missed when the they were dyeing it. I got some of this Colour B4 stuff so I will try it tonight. Have prepared myself for the inevitable ginger.

You will be a little ginger, but trust me, get an ash blonde wash out colour, one that lasts 6 washes, and it will tone down the red. I didn't think it would do any good with my hair, but it really did!

Oh dear, it does sound like there was a mess made alright :(, hopefully the colourB4 will remove the darkest tones for you, let us know how you get on :). Oh, also, get a light ash shade for after, the colour will develop as darker than usual. And rinse, rinse, rinse- when they say rinse for 5-10 minutes they really mean it :).

colourB4 is amazing, but like a previous post said before, it make look a little ginge so maybe put a semi ash colour over it.
I can honestly say colour B4 is one of the best products I've ever found. It does all it promises to do, read up about it so you know what it can do http://www.scottcornwall.com/index.php/faq

I had to have my hair stripped a few years ago. I had bleach blonde highlights, and one day decided to do a bottle job red on my hair.
Stuck with the red for four weeks, and then tried to go go bottle blonde. Obviously the blonde didnt take, so i then decide to stick a dark brown on the top of everything.
Then i wanted to go blonde again. Had to get hair stripped. Luckily i went to my mums hairdresser who worked from home, as a lot of salons wouldnt do it. As the colour was coming out my hair turned pink (and she started sweating with nerves)!! She put a blonde over it and it looked good as new.
My hair was very dry though, so had to buy lots of conditioner.
The one from boots looks very good, and i would definitely try it
    Good Luck :D
